Lompoc, CA?

Any information about hospitals in Lompoc, CA? L&D positions? I don't know a thing about it but the contract pays well and it's not far from the coast. I"m seriously considering it and appreciate feedback, positive and negative. Thanks!

I know this was posted a while ago... just in case you're still looking... Lompoc is a nice small town very near the coast with lovely weather. But it's definitely SMALL, with a small-town mentality. It's grown rapidly in the last ten years or so.

I've heard the hospital is pretty old-fashioned and uses a lot of travelers.

I think it'd be a really nice place to spend one assignment... I'd do it!... but I wouldn't move there.

(My dad is Lompoc born and bred, and my grandmother still lives there.)

Thanks for your words of advice, Wendy79. The job in Lompoc fell through; I think it was filled by another agency, but I'm giving that name out to agencies as a potential place to go. Do you know anything about Panorama City? I should start another thread about this... I was offered a day shift job at the Kaiser there starting March, but I think if I hold out long enough I'll get something that pays better (this agency, CCTC, does not have tax free pay). It sounds like it might be a good job, however, and nothing else may show up for March.

Panaroma City will put you in the thick of Los Angeles...it's not on the outskirts, it's not a smaller town, and it's not necessarily beautiful, lol....

I don't know anything about the hospitals there and lived in the Inland Empire before we moved to the Midwest, so hopefully someone else can give you more info...

If you're not adverse to the hustle and bustle of a BIG city, it might not be so bad.....it just depends on what you're looking for with your assignment -- money, location, etc....

Best wishes!

I've worked at the kaiser in Panorama, I wasn't impressed. Very standardized care, everybody gets internal monitors, pitc, and inevitably a section. I got a patient up to walk once, and they looked at me like I had 4 heads "our patients don't walk" they said.

They have Kaiser doctors that are in-house and manage the patients. So it's not very personalized care.
