Local Travel agencies??

I am a nursing student who is going to be graduating shortly. I heard about local travel agencies. Does anyone have info about them? I dont want to go far from home, but would love to travel around here (ohio). Please lemme know if you have any info!

If they are travel agencies then they usually do much more than local. You will need to have at least one year experience to work for a per diem agency or a travel agency---that is the minimum that they require but be aware that many facilities are now requiring two years and some even want five years for some of the specialty areas.

I did a few local travel contracts with Intelistaf. But echoing what Suzanne said, you do not need to even think about it until you have some good solid experience under your belt. I don't care how good you are in nursing school and how high you graduate, there is a steep learning curve and you need to be very comfortable and competant before you take off to travel, or stay locally.

A travel or local company will expect you to be a good nurse already and will not be there to teach you skills. You will be expected to be on your own after a very brief orientation, some as short as 4 hours.

If you doubt the wisdom of this, read more on the forums here about new grads and their struggles especially during that first crucial year.
