I told myself I'd never do this.... PBDS

by Misty1

I accepted an assignment at a place I really want to go but gives PBDS.

Can anyone give me any words of wisdom? I'm especially worried about the subjective questions..... Your working with a nursing student.
Dr being butthead....

I have never felt such test anxiety.

I work ICU if that matters. Someone told me there were a lot of vent questions on it. Never heard that before.

Just remember to write EVERYTHING

eg

Put on Pulse Ox
Start IV
Took BP...be careful some people don't take "vital signs" as correct cuz it depends on the patient...lol....
connected monitor
Place Nasal cannula
Call MD for abcd signs n symptoms and RECOMMENDED xyz!!!!!
Informed charge RN
Started NS bla bla bla

last n not least you will feel insulted after taking the test.

The one I did had someone with DKA, Pulmonary Embolism S/p knee surgery, Chest Pain,Stroke I believe etc...know the FINE details and type them up!

Good Luck..

I personally have decided to never take a contract with a hospital that requires the PBDS.

neurorachel, PBDS, which is known to cause PTSD, is a test that is supposed to determine your strengths and weaknesses. My employer requires it of all new hires, including traveling nurses. One area presents you with a short scenario (i.e. patient's family member complains to nurse about XYZ) and you need to provide a therapeutic response. There are also several short video segments highlighting clinical situations and you need to write down EVERYTHING you would do (i.e. VS, call MD, and anything specific to the situation). Finally, there are multiple photographs of problems with IVs (i.e. infiltration, extravasation, etc.) and you need to identify what is wrong and, essentially, how you would fix it. It is a fairly stressful experience.
