Housing Stipends?

Recruiter from one agency stated I would have my housing stipend taxed because I own a house and do not rent and if I took the stipend i would get an hourly cut in pay from 35.50 to 27 and stipend would be 1500/month. Something just does not sound right, I know of another company who offers 3000/month tax free. Does anyone know if this is true or not? Thanks for any help

Default Re: Housing Stipends?
Since you own a home, any housing stipend you receive is tax-free, since your home that you own will be considered your "tax home." The only way your housing stipend would be taxed is if you did NOT own a home or maintain an apartment in your home town while away on assignment.
