First CA OR assignment

I may be traveling to Calif. this fall for an OR assignment.
What should I expect besides good weather?

Weather is drastically different depending on the locale.

I am interviewing for Kaiser Vallejo. I have been to the Bay area. I am more curious re: safety, culture of the area-blue collar industrial poor air vs clean tech. Also how the facility treats travellers. I understand the city is bankrupt. Lot's of things to do in the area and good local wine.
