Contract Essentials: benefits/reimbursments

As a first time traveler, I wrongfully assumed my recruiter would provide me with all the information I would need to get the most out of the agency's benefits. I quickly learned there are many benefits/reimbursements that are only discussed if the traveler asks about them and has them spelled out in their contract. I was not aware that so much could be negotiated (i.e. reimbursement for shipping costs, state licensure fees). I even learned from another traveler (in the same city & with the same agency as me) that she got a higher monthly housing stipend, just by simply asking for it!
Experienced travelers, please help us newbies learn the in's and out's of negotiating. Though they will vary from agency to agency, what kinds of reimbursements/benefits should we ask for before signing a contract?
