Contacting the facility yourself?

Hi. I am new to this travel nursing and one of the agencies tells me I have to call the facility myself to interview. A different agency had the facility contact me for the interview. I am wondering which is the most common practice. Thank You.

It's funny you should say this...I am looking for my first assignment. A recruiter submitted my file a couple of days ago to a facility I'm interested in. Yesterday, she (my recruiter) called and left me a voice mail with instructions for me to call the nurse manager of the unit where I am trying to get the position, and tell her I want to talk to her about the travel position. I was always under the impression that I would wait for them to call me. I am thinking the recruiter means for it to be a way for me to get the manager's attention. I don't quite know if I feel comfortable doing this, and putting her on the spot. I don't want to be seen as "pushy".

Any thoughts?

Hmmm. I wonder if it is the same agency! I dont like the idea of calling myself. It seems pushy to me.

We have had it both ways........our recruiter told us they didnt have anything in the location we sought. Wife called the hospital and spoke with nurse manager ans manager so so excited to hear from her. They arent putting out request, they just want the people back who worked there before. Kinda weird! She received the postion and has since extended to April. BTW we are with intelistaff as well

cosmicmama.... Pm me we can talk about some things!! lol

I have had this experience as well. Personally, I do not feel comfortable doing this. I did it once and it did not yield any results.

I just don't think it is right. It was CCTC that i signed up with.

One agency that I used to work with had me do this and it was very uncomfortable. My current recruiter, different company, gave me the low down as far as my current company is concerned.
Most facilities, don't want travelers contacting them. If they are interested, they will contact you or the contact person at the travel agency. While I might be on pins and needles, I'd rather do wait then make a cold call to a manager. It's hard to know what to say to start the conversation in a manner which reflects well on you the traveler.
Anyway, if I have a question regarding a submission, I just call my recruiter and she checks in with the contact person at the hospital and gives me an updated. Works for me.

When i was interviewing with American Mobile, she set me up to contact the manager. In both cases, neither manager wanted to work with me. I think that 'pushy' thing must be a red flag...she wanted me to call them every day it seemed.

I switched companies and my present company does all the calls. I only talked to one person...the one on one interview, and everything else was through the recruiter. This is the system I'm more comfortable with.
