Hello, I'm a chronis dialysis RN. I have traveled before but not in dialysis. Was wondering if anyone knows of a good company to travel that has plenty of hemo opportunities? When I have researched I haven't seen many opportunities in the field. Was looking to go to FL.

I believe both DaVita (davita) and Fresenius (renalcaregroup) have in-house agencies. Try also qtstaffing, renalreserve, nurseresearcher, foundationmedicalstaffing, fmcna, and mynewdirections. Add dot com to the lower case names to find them online. Regular agencies will also get dialysis jobs (perhaps more likely to be acute), pick the large agencies like Cross Country and American Mobile for the best results.

I am a traveling dialysis RN, but i am capable to do both chronic and acute. The two sights with the most jobs are quik travel staffing and foundation medical staffing. They both specialize in dialysis. Aureous medical does some. Davita also offers travel assignments for chronic and acute, but they don't have a website and from what I've heard, you don't get as much choice in choosing your location. They also put you up in hotels, not actual furnished apartments. After talking with davita, I think going with a travel agency is a better choice. I don't know much about fresenius travel opportunities, I jut know that they have them.

I am looking into traveling also. I've worked chronic for a year but have extensive backgrounds in CCU/ICU nursing previously.

You need at least a year of dialysis experience to travel. Where do you want to go? I worked for several agencies 10 years ago and travelled locally. One of the companies did not take out taxes, which was a nightmare at tax time. Now I am on assignment in NC and love it here. What do you want to know ?

A good resource is the Healthcare Traveler magazine online. You can check Pub 1542 for per diem rates. This is my first trip for an extended period away from home and it has been great. If you decide to travel read the contract VERY CAREFULLY. Compare agencies. Lodging stipend should be at least 1500 a month in most places. When you decide to go, before you sign the contract , check out the rates of the place you want to stay and make sure the company is giving you enough money to stay there. In NC they have a 90 day rule for lodging. This means that after you stay 90 days in the same place you get a tax refund check back. Make sure the benefits listed for the position is actually what you get. My job listed a completion bonus - but I don't get it. The lady said they is only with certain assignments. I said, well, it should not be a generic ad. Some companies give an extension bonus - not mine. However, my company has given everything they said they would. I hope this helps.

RE: Fresenius - they pay their nurses well to travel and they have insurance and PTO. I know a nurse that worked in a chronic unit with Fresenius for 3 years, then took a travel position with them, and she was making more than me plus insurance and PTO.

Sorry it took so long to reply. i just found your question today. Yes, I do know - we just had a tech (works for FMC) move in at the same place I stay - Affordable Suites of America - they are nice. The secretary where I am working told me that Fresenius travel nurses usually stay at Candlewood Suites. I am in NC now and you can google the Affordable Suites and the place really looks like the picture on the internet. Hope this helps. If you want more info u can pm me. I hope it is not to late to help.

I don't know where you plan to travel, but if it is NC look up the 90 day lodging rule. If you take the stipend your company pays and pay for the room yourself - you will get 400 check after paying for 90 days if you stay in the same place. Some hotels / suites pay you back in rewards, but this place gives you a check.
