by aberrn

The personal check my recruiter sent me for travel expenses BOUNCED!!!!!. My bank charged me $10.

My health ins was finally cancelled.

Stay away from this company. They apparently cannot get it togeather.

They are not taking CA taxes out,but continue to take GA witholding taxes. I am about to call the IRS for info.

I used to consider travel nursing but no longer see it as an option, just from reading most of the posts on this site. Way beyond my discomfort level for day to day work life. Too much of a gamble unless one is lucky to get with a good company early on. I never want to be out somewhere stranded, with things going wrong, and really no one to rely on.

Told my recruiter about the bounced check.
Most apologetic, husband forgot to transfer funds etc..
Just recieved another check + my $10 bank charge.

Taking advice from a friend who came to CA and started job hunting.Took her a month. She suggested doing a travel assignment, use the housing, search for a job.

This I am doing, dealing with hospitals directly, cutting out the middle man.. Financially advantageous to me!!!!.

oh no!! I just signed w Axis for a job in a very nice hospital in Largo , Fl. The last thing I need is hassle with pay. I did find it frustrating to get a real quote on actual take home pay. I called my accountant. Basically I could make the same working perdiem , but I didnt want to be locked in to one facility. My husband is a scrub tech. He already took job in st pete at surgicenter but we already miss the jobs we left!! Anybody have travel tips for St pete? I will be at Largo medical center. Thanks

Okay, deep breath here! Someone elses problems with a company are reason for a heads up, not a panic. You may never have the same issue, just be aware to check your statements carefully and never pay bills in anticipation of the money arriving.
As for St. Pete - you are near some great beaches, lots of things to do in the area (check out the things happening at Ruth Eckhardt Hall). Even if the jobs are less than perfect your days off can be great.
I'm currently a little south of you in Sarasota. Drop me a note if I can be of any assistance or if you'd like to get together!

Hello, please don't let some bad experiences, and believe me, we have all had them, dissuade you from trying traveling. The various experiences whether it be new places or new people is very rewarding. Good luck!

I've worked for Axis now for 2 1/2 years and have not had a problem yet thank god. Bagladyrn I see that you are working in Sarasota, are you a full time nurse or do you travel? I have been looking to get up in that area it appears that Englewood is the only hosp taking applications for travelers at this time. Any advise I would appreciate it
thanks Anne

Are you a travel nurse in Sarasota or FT? I have been wanting to get up that way but the only travel position posted is in Englewood? Any suggestions? If you are FT are the salaries less than the rest of the state?
Thanks
Anne

If you look back you'll see that post was about a year ago. I was on a travel contract in Sarasota at that time, but am now at the opposite extreme - out in the Nevada high desert and mountains! (And the hospital I'm at has fewer beds in the whole place than the unit I worked in Sarasota!)
I've been looking to get back to FL for the fall, but not seeing much come up in the areas I prefer.

OOPs am I bad.... Sorry, didn't notice the time frame there. How is Nevada? Must be beautiful. My advise is stay away for the fall. Lots of possible hurricans coming thru this mo. very scarry... Where abouts are you looking?
Thanks for getting back to me
Have a nice weekend
