Nurse Re: Anyone work for American Mobile?
I work with AMN healthcare which is the "mother" company for 7-8 smaller sister companies. I work with nurse choice which is one of the sister companies...as is american mobile. I have had no problems with my company...they are always very attentive and pay rates are great.
I spoke with one of the recruiters with american mobile when I started looking for travel companies and they dont seem very motivated to recruite. Im not sure I got very good vibes from talking to them.
But...everyone has different experiences. It may be a fine company for you.

I have been talking to one of the recurieters about San Diego and what hospitals they service and she submitted my profile without asking or telling me. That ticked me off and I let her know that is not acceptable, then I find out they have called for a reference at the assignment I am at now. I was not happy to say the least but then she goes on vacation for a few days and her replacement calls and wants to talk about the "profiles" they have submitted. Now I am steamed because of course I cannot get in touch with her until Monday. I will not be going with them because of this. Plus you have to pay a fee for private housing. I do not think so- I have been all over the US and I have never paid for private housing and I am not going to start now.

What is the deal with them calling employers without permission? They did that to me also and I honestly thought it was a fluke but looks like its not so uncommon with them. I would think thats illegal...I didn't even give them the phone number they looked it up. Totally unacceptable.

I have been reading all of these replies to the question about AMN-WOW, my experience has ben completly diferent. My recruiter and my clinical liason have been wonderful and very supportive. On the first day of my last assignment I was told of extra responsibilities I would have-that were never mentioned in the interview- I reported this to both my recriuter and liason, I did not have to do another thing, they handled everything. The company ended up cancelling the contract due to the hospital with holding important information from me. I was not penalized in any way and the recruiter wanted to get me re-assigned right away. My recruiter has said many times that she wants her travelers to be happy-I have found that she is always trying to find the right assignment for me, my liason has been great!!!! I feel terrible for the nurses who had such a bad experince with AMN, mine has been quite rewarding.

I have traveled extensively and found that although other companies may pay a little more they just don't seem to be able to find me the jobs that I want. If you bargain with american mobile they will give you free private housing and perhaps a bit more money. when i was unhappy with my housing = my recruiter strived to get me what i wanted. when i was unhappy with my furniture - they had it changed out. paychecks were always accurate and on time and overall i found them very professional. and since they are so big i guess you don't need to worry much about them going out of business. having said all that the excellent recruiter i has moved up in the company - so now i am measuring the options of other smaller companies - i believe at least with american mobile - your treatment has a whole lot to do with who your recruiter is and how hard they are willing to strive to make you happy
however, if they are the one with the contract at the hospital i want to work in i would be quite happy to go with them again

What about them telling you it was a 13 week assignment and then at the last minute, like literally a few hours before I was to get on a plane to fly out to my assignment, that it was actually a 26 week assignment. I am working in home health for them right now for a terrible home health company and have talked to other AMN nurses here who said they did the same thing to them, only telling them it was actually a 26 week assignment at the last minute. Not to mention that they are completely unhelpful once they get you into an assignment...TERRIBLE company

it all depends on your recruiter.

i've worked with american mobile & haven't had any problems.

in this market, it's best to sign up w/a large company (like AMN or Cross Country - which I've had a horrible experience with...but again it's all about the recruiter!) and also sign up with smaller companies.

i would be working with 5 different agencies if you want a job.

Try highway hypodermics website theypublish a report about travel companies based on travel nurses evaluation in several different areas. They have a top 10 list. I recently started checking out other companies as well. I am experiencing a nightmare with AMN right now.

What are some of the smaller companies you travelers would recommend? Does anyone have any opinions on World Tavel Nursing?
