I agree they have assignments where I wanted to go but 5.00 to 7.00 lower pay than others quoted me.

I worked for them for 5 years and loved them. If you have a good recruiter that you click with, that is the key to any travel nurse company. The retirement was great and my recruiter was wonderful and took very good care of me on all of my assignments.

I have heard a couple of travelers who have been threatened by that company into doing a followup assignment.

Angry Re: Anyone work for American Mobile?
AMN is great ...for first assignment. Then, although they offer lower pay and subsidy than the competitors, they terminate you if you refuse assignments because of this very reason. They WILL NOT go to bat for you; their Hospital clients are of far more value to them than a single RN. I counsel those beginning a search to become new travelers: STAY away from AMN and their subsidiaries. If you want to be treated like a person, and if you like to actually talk to your recruiter after they schmooze you into an assignment at lower than market values, be awre of the predatory nature and lack of RN respect that is a part of AMN.

Renerian: I thought AMN had most of the market unitl I traveled a bit; anyplace I worked for AMN...I also worked with Travelers from smaller companies receiving respect and better compensation.

I have been working with AMN since jan of 2006, I have had a great experience with my recruiter, and my clinical liason. I have heard from others about bad recruiters at AMN but that has not been my experience. I guess it depends on who you get.

When I started out on my travel quest I too looked at AM, but was quickly turned off. Its true that the pay and compenstations are poor but what really turned me off was the pushy recuirters. Everytime i told her i wasnt ready yet or that i wasnt interested in a particular area she basically gave me attitude and scolded me. As if that was going to make me change my mind. I am currently wrapping up my first assignment with another company and a recuirter I love. And the recruiter for AM still calls me 2 times a month and emails me and has her assistant call me. Even after I have repeatedly told her I am not interested in traveling with them and am happy with who I am with.

Do your homework... there are a lot better companies to work for.

Can I ask which company you work for?

Take some time to look at the smaller companies...AMN tends to treat you as number. You may have difficulty reaching your recruiter after you sign the dotted line; also, if you need back-up don't count on them to be there; they wouldn't risk their relationship with the client hospital. You'll be told, basically, you're on your own, even if the position is different from what you contracted for . Very valley-girl schmoozy in the beginning; gotta give 'em credit for being good (snakeoil) sales people.
