Anyone use travel nursing as a way to relocate?

by L&DRN03

My husband and I are looking to move out of state. Neither of us work for companies that we can transfer our jobs to another state so we would both have to find new jobs once we get to our destination. Is it odd to take on one traveling assignment to get to the area we are looking at? Also we have a 1yr old daughter we'd be taking along too so we would need a larger apartment. Would we be able to stay in that apartment until we found a more permanent residence or would we have to leave the minute my assignment is over?

I used traveling to relocate to Colorado from Oklahoma. I took the money for housing and found my own apartment, that way I could keep it after the assignment was over. I renewed my contract four times before going permanent at that particular hospital. I also took a traveling position to come back to Oklahoma from Colorado. Once again I took the money for housing and found my own. I also renewed that contract four times......all the while looking for a permanent place to work...which I finally found........
Hope this helps

I also used a Travel Nurse position to relocate to Colorado. It worked out very well because I already had the apartment to drive up to.

If you use company housing, you will be required to leave the apartment after your assignment is over. Usually within 48-72 hours of your assignment end date. Like others have said, take the housing stipend & find your own place, then you can stay there once your assignment is over.

Yes. I'm in the process of doing that right now as a matter of fact. I only have one more assignment before I make the permanant move to Houston from Oklahoma.
