anyone traveled to St. thomas with a dog?

I am currently seriously looking into travel nursing in the virgin islands. However I have a 11 yr. old poodle who, as you can guess, is like my child! My company, Trustaff, is looking into finding housing for me so that my dog can come along as well. Was just wondering if anyone had an experience with traveling to the virgin islands with there little one? what do I expect? Is it unsafe for the dog? Was it hard to find housing that aloud dogs and was the housing that you did find not safe? this is what I have heard .. .. thanks for any info that anyone may have! Hope everyones surviving in this market right now: ))
