Anyone know about the PBDS test?

Hi everyone...what a great site for travel information. I just wish I had read it sooner. I am getting ready to leave for Homestead, FL for a 26 week travel assignment. The pay is good and I get a private apartment. I am very excited to be going. But I have a question regarding the Performance Based Development System Testing. Has anyone here had to take this test and what is it all about?...I'm starting to stress a little because my recruiter told me you can't really study for it and you have to pass it or loss the assignment. Any info you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Default Pbds
I took the Med-Surg PBDS test last August. I was presented with several 15-30 second video tapes. Each tape was a scenario of something happening.....blood reaction, insulin reaction, etc....I had to identify what was happening (the diagnosis), write the treatment plan and write the urgency of the treatment (whether the treatment was stat or could be handled by the end of the shift...or next shift)..... I had 7 minutes (for each scenario) to write all of this. The test is graded by some anonymous person who determines whether you are "safe enough" to be allowed to work on the floor. To me the test was ridiculous and there wasn't enough time to write everything. I didn't do well, but I was allowed to work. I decided then I would never go to another facility that required that particular test.

I just took this test (for OB) for the first time in my travels. I was also pretty intimidated before taking it, but found the scenarios to be pretty obvious. The one hint the tester gave me beforehand was to "watch the action" as much as listen to the dialog. Physical cues from the "patient" were important. The sheet they gave us with it had the most important dialog quoted on it (i.e. pt's verbal complaint and vital signs). I don't know if this is standard or not. All in all it was not nearly as difficult as I anticipated. Deep breath and good luck!
