Does anyone know any agencies that offer PRN positions? Work full time at my current job but looking to pick up some extra shifts without doing overtime at my job, please don't jude me lol.

I feel you. I don't like doing overtime on my home unit or my home hospital unless bonuses are being given. Depends on your area. Agencies without a physical presence in that state cannot staff per diem. I wanted to work per diem with Blueforce in California since I have a profile completed. They are based in Michigan and told me they could only offer per diem in Michigan.

There are hundreds of per diem agencies. There are some large national ones with dozens or even hundreds of offices, but often local ones are the ones to try. Google nursing for your location. However, if you haven't met any registry nurses at your primary job, pickings locally may be slim depending on how far you want to commute.

I work at a VA hospital they usually only use select agencies to recruit nurses that they keep around for a year or two, as of now every nurse here is permanent though.

Response to Tneo8385: First thing: your PM to me had no confidential information. Just post in the regular public forum and you will get replies, perhaps from more than just me. In addition, it will be useful to the wider community to read questions and responses. Personally, I put a lot of work into posting here and I'd rather not do it for the benefit of one person only.

Your question seems to be that if you work for a per diem local agency and a particular hospital has declined to use you, is that a termination that has to be listed on your work history? Answer is no, absolutely not. It wasn't even a termination as your employerNow if you are terminated from a travel contract week 8, there is still no requirement to list any contract you have had. If I've followed my own advice to get written references early in an assignment, I do list such failed contracts. Otherwise, no.

Your other question was if I've ever worked local agency. I've only done it a couple of times, and it was for a specific reason, to validate my skills at other facilities before starting to travel.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure, seems the staffing agency may have told my new job about the hospital not wanting to extend my contract, which is actually false the hospital was trying to hire me without telling the agency and I goofed up and told the agency they had words next thing I know the agency told me not to return to the hospital. So now my current employer is accusing me of lying on my application which I honestly didn't. I do appreciate both your responses, just was trying not to boggle everyone down with a stupid personal issue. my apologies

No problem. It is just that anyone's issues can be instructive for the rest of us if posted publicly.

Frankly, the hospital behaved unethically, and it is unfortunate you apparently encouraged them without knowing silence was essential (meaning don't tell the agency). The deal is (now that I think I understand what happened to you) is that there is a do not compete clause in the agency to facility contract (which should be mirrored in the agency to traveler contract) prohibiting the hospital from hiring you directly, or through another agency without paying your first agency a commission - usually on the order of 25% of your first year's compensation (as a starting point for further negotiation). Obviously the hospital would like to avoid that, but if they get caught it is embarrassing and expensive (the agency would have a very strong case for full payment or more in court). Generally the blackout period for a do not compete clause is 6 months (sometimes 12 months) after you complete your assignment and any extensions (including a break where you later went back during the blackout period).

What agency was this? I know AMN to make Hospitals pay 5k to hire a travel nurse full-time. Other companies don't have this practice. Recruiters get angry because you are helping pad their pockets so they never want you to take full-time.

95% of all agencies have do not compete clauses requiring a commission to be paid to them if an introduction is made and an attempt to switch employers is made. This has been the standard in the employment agency business for over 100 years and that carried over to travel nursing. Since vendor managers don't really care about squeezing the last dollar from every traveler, there are some vendor managed contracts recently that allow a change in employment after one assignment (which subcontracting agencies must follow). They use it as a selling pitch to hospitals as one way they "improve" things for hospitals, but it is certainly an added reason for agencies to hate vendor managers.

For most travelers, do not compete clauses are not much of a hindrance. You travel because you enjoy it. So traveling two more assignments before coming back to a hospital you like for a staff job is no big deal. If you wanted a staff job right now, you should not have been a traveler, but instead applied for perm.

I don't think they are known, I think they may only be based here in PA but its GHR. I even contacted my recruiter there to ask hey why would you say I was terminated when after my assignment ended you only had LTACH and Med/surg available and I informed you I wasn't interested in either one of those assignments, and of course she claimed oh they never received a reference request for me and that its against company policy to disclose any specifics to other companies. So I'm like well where did they get this false information from?
