A friend of mine just got her contract cancelled out in the Navajo IHS. It was either that or take a $10/hr cut in pay to finish out. It seems that the Navajos are cutting rates across the board because Southwest Staffing has said they can supply the facilities with per-diem nurses for a lot less. I have never heard of this company, and I thought the reason that the travellers were needed was because there weren't enough nurses living out there to staff the facilities permanently. Somehow my mind cannot wrap around the idea that there is an abundance of nurses to work per-diem, but there is not enough nurses for permanent staffing. Anyone have a clue?
