:uhoh3: help!

i have had my profile sent out for an amazing opportunity at johns hopkins. i was given a contact name and number. i call the contact person last evening about 530. my recruiter phoned this morning and told me to be persistant and call again today if i had not heard anything by this afternoon. while, i understand that persistance maybe be a key to showing your interest, i can't help but feel pushy and annoying.

i am i wrong in this. should i call this woman again today or give her a day to contact me?

Depends.

As an example some nurse managers are so busy that they are only able to check their voice mail once or twice a day. In your example he or she may have already done so yesterday and had not by say noon today. Some may also have more than one actual number to contact ie a number for staff and dept issues and an outside number for other issues.

Some recruiters/companies are more pushy than others. I had serious issues w/American Mobile recruiters being pushy. One actually lost me a job (that I REALLY wanted) by telling me to call a nurse manager that evidently did not want a call. It was one of the many issues that prompted me to change companies. With American Mobile, it was expected that I would talk to the manager within 24-48hrs of the profile being sent, and it sometimes felt like I was a "cold call" salesperson and uncomfortable. That is not true of my current company/recruiter, and I am much happier with them.

I have done assignments at JHUH. The manager actually left a message, that indicated for me to call "at my convenience"soon and gave her schedule as well as her office and home! phone. As I was going to be working Day12h for several days, and the one day that I was off was her off day, I did use the home number, though was nervous about it. She was very casual and informal and had no problem with that. I have since found that is her style, but it did take me a bit back.

If you have any questions about Hopkins, feel free to PM me.

My recruiter encourages me to be agressive as well but she's not pushy about it. Most of the time, the hospitals are "do not calls" anyways, which makes things easier for me because I do feel kinda weird chasing people for an interview. Good Luck.
