I have been a nurse for 2 and a half years and I still have questions when it comes to patient care. This makes me wonder if I would be a good fit for travel nursing, since you get a 3 day orientation and you are expected to know so much. Travel nurses, what do you think?

2 1/2 yrs is plenty of time! You will never know everything! I learn something new with each assignment. You just have to believe in yourself!

Can you try per diem at other local hospitals first? That will let you know what your aptitude is for jumping in. Hospitals are very, very different. I'm going to guess you are MS - can you orient to a new computer program quickly?

I am actually Postpartum and Mother-Baby. I can learn a new computer system quickly

I started traveling at 18 months experience. I have been traveling for a year and a half now. I still second guess myself everyday. I still look up things and bounce ideas off nurses. I think the key to traveling is being flexible and open minded, but no one knows everything and you should approach it as a learning opportunity everywhere you go. The first assignment I ever went on gave me 18 hours of orientation. I had never taken care of a vent and they put me with an RT for a day to teach me. So my point is, you aren't expected to know it all, just be competent and be willing to work hard!
