UHV Second Degree BSN Spring 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi all, anybody out there applying for this program? I haven't seen an updated thread on it yet. I just finished applying to UHV- just waiting on NursingCAS to receive my final transcript for my application to be considered "complete" I'm also applying to UTHSCH UTHSCSA accelerated programs, and TWU-Houston traditional BSN program. I have my B.S. in Human Biology from UT Austin in Spring 2010. My undergrad GPA was definitely less than stellar, but all my pre-req coursework is not too bad. What is y'alls impression of this program?

I have applied as well. I just paid the application today so I'm scared it might not get there on time ;(

I think it should be ok...did you send all your transcripts already?

I was also looking for an updated forum on this topic.

I spoke to an advisor and they said that as long as your info is updated on the NursingCAS then you technically make it? I know that contradicts the website since it says that it needs to be submitted weeks ahead... so yeah... still questionable.

Have you checked NursingCAS lately? It took like a week and a half to receive my last transcript, but about once they had all of them it only took like two days to "verify" and complete my application. So, it was done by 9/1/2013 for me. I wonder if UHV wants us to submit so early so they can get their own GPA calculations together...hmm.

Also, I emailed someone last week about my TEAS V scores not being attached to the application, but still haven't received a response. :/ I just wanted to confirm they received it via email. Aside from that, I faxed in the SS release form, too, so I should be done!

I'm pretty sure they use the calculations that are done by the NursingCAS. If you want your TEAS scores on the CAS application then you need to call them and have them update the information. Once you submit your application online then you cant make this adjustment anymore...so they have to do it for you.

Well, I emailed the new advisor/contact person, and she confirmed that everything has been received for me(including TEAS scores) and it is complete for consideration! Now to wait...-_-

The waiting is very hard...I submitted my application on the very first day that it opened (May 1 I think??)...I spoke to the advisor and was informed that the board would be meeting to review our applications at the end of October.

Good luck to everyone!

WOW! That's so crazy that they wait so long to review applications. -_- Why can't they start sooner? ;(

I know! I wish they would start sooner :( I'm sure there's some method to their madness...

You are applying to UT-H also, right? Which program is your top choice?

Yes, I'm applying to UT Houston, TWU and UTHSC in San Antonio. I'm just looking to go wherever I get accepted that I'll be done soonest. However, if I had a choice, I would love to go to UT Houston. I like the idea of going straight through, at a goood pace with no summers off, on top of not having to relocate.

UHV is nice as well because the program is just one year. Also, I live in the Katy area, so that would be convenient because I wouldn't need to move at all. (commute to med. ctr is ridic from Katy) On top of that, it would probably be the least expensive route as I'm still paying off my first degree's loans. The only downside is that I feel it may be too intense for me. I've read from the past forum of UHV that there is a lot of teaching yourself. I'll do what I need to do in order to succeed, but I may need more guidance. I'm ultimately looking to go back to school for FNP, so wherever I go, I would need to do stellar in my coursework to have a chance at getting into grad school. My first degree GPA wasn't great at all, but I feel a lot more focused now and ready to succeed. So...we'll see. What about you? What's your first choice?

I think my first choice is UHV. I like the shorter program (less time that I have to go without a job, and the sooner I can start working), and I have heard great things about it. I live in Katy also, so the shorter commute and not having to pay for parking would be really great.

I really like UT Houston too though. I've heard great things about that program as well, and the 15-16 month program might be a little less intense than UHV's. But the commute and parking situation wouldn't be ideal.

I would be really happy to get accepted into either program. The only thing is, we will hear from UT way before UHV regarding our acceptances. I just want to get into a program, so I will go to the first school I get accepted to (IF I get accepted!). Those are the only two programs I have applied to so far. If I don't get accepted to either one, I will apply to UT-H again, as well as UTMB Galveston.

I am in the same boat as you. I didn't have an awesome GPA with my B.S. degree, and I will most likely go on to FNP or CRNA eventually, so I will need to make great grades in the BSN program. Like you, I definitely feel more focused now that I am older and more mature, and have a better idea of what I want. Hopefully that will help us be able to get through these intense programs!
