  1. Keels, that's great news!!! Congrats on being finished with that LOOONNGG wait! It's so much easier on this side of things. I am enjoying the break and as excited as I am to start nursing school, I don't want to rush this time in the least! This board is a great way to get your questions answered, thanks to a few students already in the program who've provided great tips and insight for us newbies! I agree. A pre-orientation get together sounds like a great idea!!!

Okay so where's everybody at in knocking off their to-do list??? I finished the background check, physical and ordered most of my books. I still need to sew my patches on but other than that I think I can't really do much more until August. Orientation, CIDs, drug test, ID, parking and tuition can't be done til August, is that right? I've got my stethoscope, shoes and patches, still need to get my uniform tops. They were on backorder and won't be here til end of July. I got a great deal and they're pretty cute, but since I can't find them anywhere else, I'm wondering if they're being discontinued. I may just be on the lookout for a style I can try on in the store, in case these never make it to me.

    I'm getting so excited!!!!!
  2. Congratulations Amanda!!

I haven't ordered my stethoscope yet... but the website someone gave was medisave.net, I've looked at a lot of other websites and they seem to be the cheapest, but that's been over a month ago that I did that so you might want to check out some other places and make sure.

The books we need are on the "Important Nursing Information-Fall 2012.pdf" that's the one that has a ton of pages, and it starts on page 9. Someone said they ordered their's but the website said they won't be able to ship it out, I can't remember why, until July? I'm not sure about all that! lol So who ever said it please correct me! Also, that's if you are going to order the package from majors.
  3. welcome Amanda! Stethoscope with free engraving is at medisave.net (I looked at a few places but I'm pretty sure I'm telling you right). I went with Littmann.

The book list should be in one of the attachments they sent you with your acceptance email. I purchased a couple through amazon and the ebooks you can get through Majors bookstore or through evolve/elsevier.

I'm running out the door but I'll check back later in case you have any other questions. Congrats again to you both!!!!
  4. Wow maam! You are definitely on top of things! That's great! lol all I've done is my background check!!
  5. Congrats to you 2 Keels...

maamcdonald & vc1478 thanks for the information I'll check that website out.

I talked to one of my friends who started the nursing program this past semester and she said we really don't need our skills book but I'm iffy if I should still buy it or not. Any thoughts? She did say we will need a good Nursing drug book and Nursing care plan book.

On our orientation paperwork it says they will be selling scrubs there as well. Do you guys think it's best to buy them there or do your own shopping?

Also I'm trying to sign up for the $38.00 class to get your CPR cert and I can't register I guess I have to turn in my menigitis paperwork before I can sign up for classes? Don't know
  6. Vc- all that wound up energy from waiting so long really put a fire under me! Lol. Now I'm just cruising' til August.

I heard that too, so I just ordered the online portion that we need and skipped buying the book. I have a 2010 drug book and will probably stick with that. TCC offers an online resource free to students. Also if you have an iPhone there's a free drug app that was highly recommended. I'm not much help with CPR. Read a few pages back, I think there's a bunch of people going thru TCC, a great option once you get your meningitis completed. If you go elsewhere, it will be probably be pricier. I went through Cook's a while back and it was around $90ish.

I'm just going to buy scrubs myself, that way I'm able to try them on and make sure I like them, but people have said they are really cheap if you get them at orientation.

Also, I don't know if you are interested or not, but the CPR class I'm taking and also that Christin is taking, is at the TCC NW campus and is only $15 (& it will be taught by a nurse). A few pages back we were talking about it and I posted the number and other stuff. There were only 6 spaces in the class total, and when I registered there were 3 left. So I guess you would want to call and check to see if there are any left now, you have to go up to the school to pay and register. But, it's a great deal if you haven't gotten your shot yet and can't register for the other class on web advisor. Just thought I'd let you know!
  9. Thanks vc... I just called up to NW campus and they only have 1 seat available for August 9. My best bet will probably be the NE campus.

maamcdonald where did you end up buying the online portion for skills?
  10. I went through the elsevier evolve website. You should already have a login and password from when you took the HESI. If you lost it, just open a new account.

    Here's what you're looking for:
Nursing Skills Online Version 2.0 for Nursing Interventions & Clinical Skills (User Guide and Access Code), 5th Edition

They also offer it with the book so double check and make sure its just the online skills version. It cost $64.95. I think they also offer it at Majors for around the same amount.
