Which school is better in Dallas, Texas for LVN? Concorde,Platt, or Dallas Nursing In

U.S.A. Texas

Hi Everyone! I need some advice. I am trying to start nursing school . I am in Dallas, Texas. I decided I would first get my LVN then go back and get my RN. Just because I think for me it will be better that way so I can make a decent living while getting my RN. Now I have looked into schools like El Centro, Brookhaven , NCTC. It takes forever to get into their LVN programs because apparently ALOT of people apply. So I started looking into the private schools like Concorde, Platt, and Dallas Nusring Institute( use to be called something else NTCPI or something). What I am needing to know , does anyone know of or graduated from any of these "private institutions"? They are very expensive so my biggest concern is that if I am going to pay between 18,000 and 24,000, I want to know I will definately be able to get a job and that I will be able to bridge into an RN program at a public school. If anyone has any information on these places please let me know. Also of the 3 which one is the best one to go to? I know none are that great , but which is better? Please let me know . Thank you all soo much!

Does anyone really like their school while attending it? I know I don't but when I graduate as a ready to go lvn then I will probably recommend them. If these schools told us the truth about some things then we would've never enrolled.

are there any nclex-lvn reviews in the dallas area?

Is there something anyone can tell me about the mock nclex they require you to take and pass at concorde career institute in arlington ?:redbeathe

I was going to attend the Dallas Nursing Institute and they were offering night classes which i thought was pretty convenient but the price for it was really outrageous compared to a local community college. I would tell anyone to try to go to a community college first.

looking at my last comment up there, I have to say I agree with Matthew. of course I hate school now. my life has been turned upside down this past year. i am miserable. I am broke. I am overworked. I am tired. but in the end, I will be a nurse. and it's because of DNI offering a night program that I can say that. so I guess it's a love-hate relationship b/t me and my school.

I also thought about going to Concorde to get my lvn degree then do bridge prog at mountainview junior college i just hope when i finish that i can find a job paying me more then 10 dollars an hour. lol

Does anyone know after you get your lvn license if you can work at a clinic or a physicain office or will i have to work at a hospital?

You will not have trouble finding an LVN job for more than $10/hr, LVNs get paid quite a bit more than that. The starting average pay is about $15-20/hr. There seem to be numerous job openings for LVNs in clinics and offices in our area, however if may be difficult to attend a bridge program while working those hours. Also there are not as many hospital jobs for LVNs any more. Most of the LVN jobs are available in long term care, skilled nursing, and home health.

i went to dni, it was ok it is accredited and all but of course the classes that you take do not transfer anywhere and none of these schools have a lvn to rn program. but from what i hear it has totally changed since i was there a few years back and may have changed for the better or worse. there seems to be an abundance of applicants to the "cheaper" community college programs so yes, dni, concorde or platt would be your best bet if you really wanted to get in somewhere and do what you gotta do. and it will cost you, $18,000 and up. but there is financial aid.

my suggestion to you is, if you can just go thru a traditional program thru el centro or something and get your rn. because as i am finding out, unless you have a 3.5 or higher gpa you are going to have a hard time bridging to rn in the future.

welcome to texas! :nurse:

actually, concorde has very recently started an lvn-to-rn bridge program.

Dont quote me on this but I think Concords program will start in December ... I know they said it would start sooner because I go to school there, but last I heard the class had not started yet ( now mind you I havent asked for some time ) ...You know how those bumps in the road go lol . I could try to find out for those that are interested unless you or someone else knows for sure. Also I heard from a student that goes to DNI that their bridge program should start in August ( if it gets approved )

Hey there Commuter how are your classes going and best of luck to you !!!

My classes are moving at a fast and furious pace, but I have faith in my abilities to accomplish this feat ahead of me.

TheCommutter,

Are you talking about Concorde in Arlington, and what school are you doing your bridge program through if you don't mind me asking?
