I just read an article about the Texas BON and how there are several nurses there that are convicted of some serious crimes but still practice? Is this true? I know people are accused of crimes,... Read More

    Hello,
I suppose it would be fairly easy to accept the justification of 'oodles of inconsistancies' if you or one close to you don't happen to be an 'oodle'. Or if you choose to forget the words of the great jurist who said that in our country it were better to see 'a thousand guilty men go free than to see one innocent man punished'.

Oodles are permanently disabled by serving our country in war. Should we simply forget them because things like this happen?
Apparently struck close to a nerve. Sorry. Guess I should have known anything I could have said would offend someone. I'm not sure what most of your post has to do with the original theme of this thread, or with what I posted, but I understand that you are upset.

I reread my post and I stand by what I wrote. Your sarcasm aside, I'm not sure we are so far apart, my post is just "sans chip." (I think this is the first time I've ever known someone to be offended by or take issue with the use of the word "oodles." When I used it, I thought, "how bland." Well, apparently not! )

Crumb, you don't know my experiences, and you don't know the experiences of my friends or family. The fact that I am looking at the bigger picture and the greater good probably suggests to you that I have never had such difficulties. It would be unwise (in nursing too) to assume that what you don't know is there, in fact isn't there. Looks can be so deceiving.

In no way would I attempt to justify inconsistencies or suggest that inconsistencies should be justified. I have long relied upon that quote from Judge Learned Hand myself, particularly when it comes to extremes of punishment based on imperfect technology, for example. I do suggest that inconsistency in justice is a huge problem, it always has been a huge problem and it probably always will be a huge problem. For those of us who have been caught in it, it's a shame. But it can be worked through and lived through. Plenty of us can attest to that.

"What doesn't kill you builds character" isn't much comfort. A friend once told me I had enough character, it was time for better luck. I suspect that living through being caught in inconsistencies can develop grace. At least I hope so.

"Fix the problems in your own little world. Do good when nobody cares whether you do good or not. Keep doing good even when you get punished for it." The words aren't exact, but come pretty close to a quote attributed to Mother Theresa. It's close enough to work for me. I guess I'll keep doing that until it doesn't. That includes posting in this BB.

Sorry you or someone you care about are having a hard time personally. When that happens to me, I try to get out of my own issues and help somebody else. Just a suggestion that might work for you. It works for me and lots of others.

    Hi,

You misunderstand, and I think we are closer to agreement than you think. The 'nerve' you alluded to is pretty universal in my world view. Outrage at hypocracy and harm to others extends beyond this issue, and extends to virtually anyone unfortunate enough to have been similarly served, as it would be if God forbid, anything happen to you. It is not necessary to be convicted of anything in the present zeitgeist. It can merely be suggested, and that person can be wrecked without due process. We have more people in prison, especially black males, than any country which fancies itself a democracy, or republic, or whatever the current line of thinking is at this time, many of them nonviolent. And there is enough misery in this world without gratuitously adding to it by publishing those sorts of articles. As I said, the media would be more than happy to be party to extortion or blackmail if it sells.

The other evening, I was questioned on a number of matters as well as my name, meds given, what for, et.c by the family member of a patient who was documenting every move and every word. I do not know the motive, I would judge a prior negative experience. I asked 'Did you read the newspaper article about the Nurses? If you have a problem with me in particular taking care of your mom, I will make arrangements to make you more comfortable'. She replied that she was well aware of the article, but denied that it was her rationale for recording everything, and was fine with me personally. (Not paranoia, just past experience of cultural/religious matters which sometimes come into play.)

First, I am 'sarcastic' for a reason. As South Park and Reno 911 have shown, the more convenient way of not offending any one group is by offending everyone equally. No one knows if I am female, male, black, asian, Jewish, Canadian or Klingon. Therefore I have greater freedom of expression, so long as I don't mention drive-up ATMs in Braille, which I won't.

'Oodles' are not offensive, rather they were convenient pronouns, having been previously used. Indeed, some of my best friends are oodles. You did not offend me at all, and no nerve was struck because I am in some sort of trouble. My antipathy is not toward inconsistency, which is a human trait, but toward malice, control and greed. And as long as one person hurts another from those base motives, I will, to the best of my ability, be a burrdock on their butt, for I see no 'greater good' in hurting the innocent or using a person as a way to an end. I haven't read the philosopher or social scientist yet that can define 'the good' as anything more than a value judgement.

As for the 'bigger picture', I can only reply that my view is admittedly limited. The 'bigger picture' I am familiar with is associated with justification for the actions of big shots covering their acts, or reserved exclusively as an attribute of God.

We have no argument as far as I can see, although I do enjoy the exchange of differing ideas in an amicable way. My father often was known to say that you can't learn anything from someone who knows less than you do, and I have learned from our interaction.

Oh stop and grow up! Sex offender are everywhere and the ones who are most dangerous are the ones we don't know about. This man should not be working with children but for God's sake, address the situation without the name calling. Be adult. You will get further! You supposed to be professionals!

You do realize you are worked up about posts that are about 2 years old, right?

    I didn't see name calling.

I do however see that your post pretty much attacks the participants of the discussion, rather than their debate points.

This is neither professional nor on topic......
