Wanting to Move to Dallas

  1. I am a nursing student but I know for a fact that I will be moving to Dallas. I live in Arkansas but I want to give my dad a place to visit when he retires(and I also want to get away from home and the small city) My fiance and I have been looking for places that are close to Dallas but not in Dallas( the crime and all of that aren't very appealing) What are some of the palces I could check out- as far as buying a house or at least renting an apartment for my first year or so their. I want to be close to Dallas Children's Hospital. Put it like this- Where is a nice place to live and raise kids but still be close(30 minutes or so ) to Dallas- I prefer the suburbs. Thanks in advance!!

Dallas is one big urban sprawl now and it takes 1/2-1 hr to drive almost anywhere it seems...LOL! I live in a Fort Worth suburb and like it. Taxes and housing will be higher in Dallas. There are some nice suburbs of Dallas...our resident Plano-ite Tom likes Plano a lot...I have friends in Garland who like it there, as well as Lewisville and Grapevine. Lots of choices depending on your wants and financial considerations.....take a visit, drive around and see what you like...and welcome! I moved here 24 yrs ago and stayed.

I was born and raised in Garland. I'm a little biased, but Garland is a nice place to live. It's about 30 minutes (maybe less) to Dallas Children's.

Right now, I live in Midlothian, which is 30 minutes South of Dallas. It's very nice and quiet, the taxes aren't outrageous and the housing prices are great. There are TONS of cities that are 30 minutes driving to Dallas..Plano, Farmer's Branch, Mesquite, Duncanville just to name a few.

Not sure if it runs past that hospital but if DART light rail can get you there it opens up a few other possibilities. You can jump on the train from the airport area and be downtown in about 1/2 hour. Anyone know if there's a stop near Children's?

Carrollton/Farmers Branch is in the northern suburbs and a GREAT place to live! Great schools if you're gonna have kiddies.

I don't believe that the Light Rail passes by the hospital, but I'm sure that there is a bus that runs past through there

The Dallas area has some of the best salaries in the country. The cost of living is not too bad and nurses do quite well financially without having to work themselves to death as in other states where the nurses get paid a lot less in a high cost of living area.

    You will enjoy working there.

Be sure to check out Irving. I like it here. You can drive into parts of Dallas in 10 or 15 minutes.

Hi, been quite some time since I have been on here, but, I live in Mesquite and I love it, I work close to downtown, not a bad drive, you get used to it after awhile, moved here from McKinney, nothing there---like someone else said, come visit and look around. If I can be of any help ley me know...
    Good Luck.

Actually the rail stops right in front of children's - the TRE stops there as it leaves downtown on it's way over to Irving.
