UTMB Fall 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello! I searched the site and seen no one made a topic about the people trying to enter in Fall 2013 so here is it  I am applying to UTMB for Fall 2013. I've written my personal statement and filled in the application. Now i'm waiting on nursing CAS to receive all my transcripts and to take my TEAS test on Jan. 8. I'm so nervous. How is everyone else coming along?

Texas tech & UTMB

I applied originally just applied to UTMB and Whartons ADN program. I feel bad that I did not apply to any other BSN programs, and by the time I decided to apply, most all deadlines had passed. Has anyone here taken the HESI A2? (Knock on wood) if I do not make it into a program I am thinking about taking this test so that I am not just limited to schools that want the TEAS v. Also, does anyone know if I start an ADN program for a semester, can I transfer into a BSN?

I have several classmates who began an ADN program then were accepted at UTMB, however, they didn't "transfer"... meaning no credits were accepted from their other program - they started from scratch, again. So keep that in mind when making the decision - it's a major extra expense - books, uniforms, courses, etc. Another thing to consider... that was someone else's spot that you just had for one semester then left... some professors find that a poor decision when they learn (have seen it happen with said classmates...) So, just think positively about UTMB for now, good luck!

I haven't followed this thread for a while now, but is it true that there will be NO interview for the traditional program?! Do they officially post this info somewhere in UTMB website?

Thank you so much! I did not even think about it that way . I definitely don't want to prolong anyone else's nursing career, or mine either lol. Punkydoodles, how do you like UTMB?

Yes unfortunately. This is the one thing I needed to explain my low test grade but 4.0 GPA. there going to be so confused. lol. & now I can't explain it as detailed as I want. I was on the waiting list for twu and was #11. but they only accepted 9 -_- & I had a 64% on my teas. I have a degree already which helps..& I understand some people get in with unfinished sciences. & I have all mine which is also a benefit but all my sciences were a 4.0. I REALLY needed the interview to explain and show my passion for this. unlike any other school I was looking forward to the "well rounded" overall look they do. they also told me they don't look at references. & I have 5 on NursingCas.

[sigh]

Iwantaninterview. -_-

Did you do a personal statement? That is kinda like an interview..

Yes but not as detail as I would have wanted it. I was told over the phone there would be interviews until I called today again and now there saying no

Has anyone gotten the Applied vs. Acceptance numbers? For some reason i am thinking it's 80 spots for over 800 applications. I recall in open house someone saying that they would be opening up additional spots but i don't recall the figure. And if i recall correctly at that time, the applications received were around 7 ir 8 hundred. I think these numbers were for traditional program only. Can someone clarify or just give input on this? My mind could have dramatized the actual figures that were given and i hope I hope this is the case.... :-)

I'm a little worried...My science Gpa on nursing cas is not too great. They factored in a D that I received in A&P II 10 years ago due to being unable to finish the semester because of military obligations. Of course, I should have dropped it at that time, but was young and irresponsible, etc. Anyway, does anyone know if UTMB will take that into consideration, since I have obviously taken that course again and scored a Much better grade. Also, I thought all science classes had to be within 5 years to be considered anyway, right? I plan on trying to call them tomorrow, but was wondering if this had happened to anyone else... a bad grade from a course that was taken a second time... Thanks!

If you retake a class UTMB still counts both grades for your overall GPA, they don't drop the lower grade unfortunately. So it is like averaging the two grades together. As far as the science classes it was my understanding they have to be taken in the last 5 years, but I don't know if they throw the old grades out or keep them if the class is more than5 years old. I would definitely call and ask!
