UTMB Fall 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello! I searched the site and seen no one made a topic about the people trying to enter in Fall 2013 so here is it  I am applying to UTMB for Fall 2013. I've written my personal statement and filled in the application. Now i'm waiting on nursing CAS to receive all my transcripts and to take my TEAS test on Jan. 8. I'm so nervous. How is everyone else coming along?

I know they do some of the clinicals at St. Luke's. We get about 10-15 students per semester doing weekly clinicals in my unit.

Rmegster Have you guys began clinicals yet? If so where do y'all complete them at? Also, how are you liking the program so far? I would really love to hear some more details about UTMB like the schedule and intensity of the classes and such.[/quote']

Yep! You start clinicals after a couple weeks into your first semester. Clinicals can be at any hospital in Galveston/Houston. Be prepared to drive! Sometimes you get to put in your preference, other times it gets chosen for you. Just depends on the instructor.

Flexibility is key. All of the bsn programs compete for placements, so sometimes you won't know where you are going until the week before. It sounds scary, but the staff is great and will help you in any way they can.

Schedules change from semester to semester, but for my class we had two days of classes each week, one day off each week, and two days of labs or Clinicals each week. I think that changed for the spring class, buy out gives you an example.

Whichever nursing school you choose, time management will be a new challenge! Programs are demanding and they require a lot of your time. If you're not great in that area, start practicing! :)

I'm thinking about applying to SHSU for the fall! How long did it take to hear back?

Well for the fall the deadline already passed but you use nursing cas just like you did for utmb

On their SON site it still says that they are accepting applications for fall.. and on NCAS they say deadline is 6/1/13 unless that's acceptance for next spring.. I don't know to be honest lol

Ok I'm going to take a look at that date in march and see if we have an exam in chem lab that day. I definitely want to check out the area. When was the deadline for Sam houston? They sent out acceptance letters quick! That's awesome. That's the one thing I am most nervous about; being denied at all of my choice schools. I bet it feels good to know you at least have somewhere to fall back on :-)

Anybody go to the info session that has some information to share?

 NO clue what happened to the super DETAILED response I wrote u yesterday. For some reason it did not go through when i pressed send but who knows! ANYHOW, congrats on getting into SAM HOUSTON GIRLY!!! The open house cleared up ALLOT of things I was misinformed on by comments on here and the actual website of the school. FOR ONE, the tuition is not low, like AT ALL it costs a little over 33 THOUSAND for Texas residents that will live OFF campus, 52 thousand if u will live ON campus. And non Texas resident tuition is 70 THOUSAND :dead: ON campus) and 51 thousand off campus! Where that price range they have on the website came from, I have no clue. Its not a lengthy program because they go to school through the summer which is great, and they stated allot that they look at the entire applicant and not just bits and pieces many times so don't be intimidated for the people that don't have 4.0s and that didn't score a million hundred thousand on the TEAS like everyone on here seems to have scored lol :x3: .. anything else u want to know that may have been discussed in the info session let me know! the message i wrote yesterday was so much more detailed but i have forgotten what all i put in it lol :banghead: ! There are no classes offered online for the traditional BSN program, they have to be on campus 2 days clinical two days with one day off.

oh my goodness.. 33 THOUSAND? Do you know if they said anything about the Texas Tomorrow Fund for using that towards tuition?
