UTMB Accelerated BSN Summer 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

The application opened for this program just opened the other day, and I wanted to see if I could reach out to anyone else applying!

I've submitted my application, and took the TEAS V Test this morning!

I graduated Texas A&M with a Biology Degree this year and during completion of this degree I realized Nursing is where I want to be! Hope to hear from others!

Howdy! Well kind of, I'm supposed to be Class of 2013 but I graduated a year early. This year I took off of school to work and save money, so I'm very anxious to get back in school. After getting only wait-listed twice at TAMHSC(even though I thought I had pretty competitive credentials), I thought I better apply elsewhere. I guess you never know what the applicant pool will be like. I'm pretty pumped about the possibility of UTMB! I'd feel very fortunate to get to attend their program. From one aggie to another- good luck! gig 'em!

Applying to nursing schools has been the worst! I have a bachelors already (anthropology), so I'm applying to UTMB's accelerated BSN program [as well as UTHSC - H (first choice), TWU, UTA, TA&M corpus].

I had no idea until I stumbled upon this thread that they changed the deadline! Because I'm applying to so many schools I made a spreadsheet back in the summer with schools, deadlines, requirements, etc trying to keep it all straight, and it still says "NOV FIFTEENTH" so of course I rushed to take my exams in October and submit everything by then. I did the supplemental around the end of november. These early deadlines were driving me crazy because I took A&P II, micro, nutrition, stats and med term just this last fall, so I though I'd do all this work and they wouldn't even see the grades. ...well I was wrong. So I should add the grades to NursingCAS? and send THEM another transcript? I could see why they would want it, but they havent actually asked for it via email, snail mail or mystar....

I got an email today scheduling an interview for the 24th. I guess that's good and I guess that means that I submitted enough. I wish I knew if this interview is just another step in the application process or a sign that I have a good chance so long as I don't blow it. :) I thought about making an appointment with an adviser the same day, as galveston is 2 hours away, but it seems kind of worthless, because if she tells me I need another class, when would I take it?

Does anyone know the day that classes start? All I can find is "May" but my online texas government class at lonestar ends on may 12th - Issue?

When I wrote my statement, at first I couldn't find a prompt anywhere, so I actually emailed an adviser and asked what she wanted - her response was unhelpful. Something like, "our requirements are online" so I just wrote what I thought a school would want to know and finally found the terms tonight and luckily I think I met the requirements.

I'm constantly paranoid that I'm missing some vital document or deadline for some school.

My GPA from my first degree was ok - 3.3 or something, but I wasn't planning on going back to school, so I had no motivation to strive for all A's, just do generally well. I've taken 29 hours of science preereqs this summer/fall to apply for summer/fall 2013 programs and made all A's and 1 B.

I don't like to make lame excuses but the TEAS was not a good experience. I had to drive clear across Houston in the awful morning traffic, and because of construction was actually a few minutes late - didn't think they would let me in, but security was MUCH more lax than at the HESI. I had to finish in like half the time too because USCIS decided to schedule my husbands Immigration interview (he's australian)the same day on the other side of Houston at noon and we only have the one car (he waited outside while I took the test).

I ended up doing OK anyway: 88 overall score, 98th percentile for nation.

I don't usually test well, so I'm not really sure what happened.... but can't complain.

I'm posting this because this is the stuff I wan't to know from other applicants.

Has anyone done an interview or know what to expect? I have absolutely no medical background so I'm worried that will work against me.

Thanks!

Has anyone heard anything besides kittybitties? Any interview invites? Nothing on my end... Still waiting...

Hey kittybitties,

Congrats on receiving an interview! My gpa and teas scores are pretty similar to yours, but I have not gotten an email about interviews yet. :( I'm getting very anxious at this point. I've done plenty of volunteering and other experiences but you never know what they want.

And I agree, the TEAS was way more relaxed than the hesi. When I arrived to take the teas, I thought they were forgetting to give me instructions and things, but it was just less strict. I also thought it was a better representation of knowledge but who knows.

All the nursing school applications have been very stressful- they all have different deadlines, prereqs and various requirements. My best friend that's applying to PA school said its much different for them- one application, one test, and for the most part the same requirements. At this point I'm just ready to hear an admissions decision.

Good luck to everyone!

aggie2013 - Howdy!! That's awesome! I will graduate in May with a Bachelor's in Health (Allied option)! :) I received an email yesterday and have an interview next Wednesday!! When I called to schedule the time the lady said with the holidays and extended deadline that it was taking longer to get everyone's emails in. Kittybitties, I also wondered if all qualified applicants get interviews or if interviews are a really good sign! Good luck and gig 'em to everyone who has applied! I'm sure they are going through the applications in the order received. Mine was sent in a few weeks before the deadline in November so they've had a long time to look over it! Also, does the order we interview in matter at all? Hmmmm... I'm going to talk to a girl who was accepted last Fall soon and ask her if she knows any more than we do about the application process!

Good luck to everyone!!!!! :))

I sure hope I receive an email soon. :( I'm getting so worried! I submitted mine I think a week before the November deadline? I just don't want to get my hopes up for anything. Always better to be pleasantly surprised I guess. It's so ironic to me that there's always a shortage of nurses and there are so many qualified ambitious people wanting to get into school so badly. Hopefully I get something soon! Good luck on your interview!

I'm sure you will hear something soon!!!! :) I feel the same way about wanting to be surprised instead of expecting the best and then things not working out how you planned. It is verryyyy ironic that it's incredibly hard to get into nursing school, and schools only take about one hundred applicants, yet so many students apply!! Thank you bunches! I'm a little nervous only because I don't know what to expect!

Fingers crossed that we hear something this week. Good luck guys!

Hi everyone! I received an email saying that they are now preparing every applicants packet for the board review. They said that I was missing the personal statement. I emailed it back immediately and she said she will contact me again this week to schedule the interview. I am sure you will all hear from them this week. Good luck to you all!

Hi everyone. I applied for the accelerated program a couple of days before the Nov 15th deadline and I just received the email with my interview invitation this morning! I'm excited but nervous at the same time! I was also wondering if everyone gets invited for interviews or if they only interview the most qualified applicants. Good luck to everyone!

I received an email thanking me for my patience and that they are currently reviewing applications and if we do not receive any communication by March 1st to contact them. Talk about getting my hopes up. Ugh. Not the email I was wanting.

I had read from the last class (Spring 2013) that they didn't have interviews. I guess they are doing them again?
