UTHSCSA Traditional BSN Application Fall 14

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello! So I had seen threads started for past classes and didn't see one yet for the Fall of 2014 class, so I figured I would start one. So let me introduce myself. My name is Will Long, I am a 27 years old male and I am applying for UTHSCSA's Traditional BSN program for the Fall of 2014. I have started my application and have signed up to take the TEAS test next Friday. I am pretty excited about finally being able to apply after finishing up all the pre-reqs. Anyways I was hoping this thread could be used a source of information and a place to ask each other questions throughout the application process. Anybody else out there applying? Have you already taken your TEAS test?

Hi there! I have been checking in the past couple of weeks to see if anyone started a thread for Fall '14, and I'm glad to see you did! I am also applying for fall, and it really does feel great to finally be done with all of the prerequisites. I am taking my TEAS test on Jan 28th and I am getting nervous! Did you buy any practice tests or the study book? I decided to buy both because I honstly had no idea what to exoect with this test.I'm also still waiting on transcripts for one more school, but all my coursework is filled out, just waiting for the big test day. Good luck on your test!! (I just checked and "next friday" is today for you! I hope you did well!)

In the process! I've just submitted 2 or 5 applications! Congrats! I know the feeling! I don't know about you, but it feels like everything is finally coming into focus for me. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! :D ha ha I'm signed up to take the TEAS at the end of the month. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the post! Hoping you did well!!!

Good luck to all of you guys! I took the TEAS test a couple months ago. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you sleep well, eat beforehand, and take advantage of the breaks in between. At the end of each section you have to push the "continue" key to move on. You are going to be sitting in front of a computer for a couple hours, so don't worry about rushing it (the clock stops at the end of each section).

I have heard the same thing from just about everyone else that has taken it so far... the science section is the roughest part. There are questions in there that you probably thought that you would never have had to recollect again. Don't worry, though. I haven't met a single person that hasn't "passed". A couple of my friends said that just skimmed through the book said it really helps because it is the exact same format, and even some of the same questions.

Hey guys, I'm Whitney! I applied for Spring 2014, but ended up deferring my enrollment to August...so I'll be starting then instead! If anyone has questions, I've already been through this whole crazy process, so feel free to ask me any questions! Oh, and good luck everyone! :)

I just bought the study book. Focus on science and math sections and you'll be golden!

Hey y'all! So I took my TEAS last Friday! I had been studying on and off for the past couple months and then really buckled down the past couple weeks. I had the ATI study guide and the McGraw & Hill practice tests. I read through the ATI book and then focused on the bold words. I took several practices tests and timed myself. I then went back and looked what I had missed and then focused my studies on those topics. I felt pretty comfortable going in to take it. The reading section took me down to the wire as far as time, there were several long passages that required some time to read through. The Math was pretty straight forward and right along with the ATI book and the practice tests. The science section really threw me for a loop. There was quite a few in depth physiology and chemistry questions. The English was also very straight forward and right along with the ATI study guide. Like Heather said above; make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before and eat a good breakfast before going in to take the test. I was rather worried coming out of the test because I really had no idea how I did. I had been scoring in the 80's in most of the sections on my study tests. I finally received my scores via email Saturday night around 8pm.

Program Type: ADN

Adjusted Individual Total Score: 84.7%

ATI Academic Preparedness Level: Advanced

Mean - National: 64.3%

Mean - Program: 64.9%

Percentile Rank - National - 95

Percentile Rank - Program - 96

Reading Adjusted Individual Score 90.5%

Mathematics A.I.S. 90.0%

Science A.I.S. 70.8%

English and Language Usage A.I.S. 93.3%

I was rather excited! I had read that the average TEAS score for the class accepted Fall semester of last year was a 78. So I went in shooting to get a score better than a 78. Mission accomplished!

I am just waiting on one more letter of recommendation to come in and then I am going to send my application off, hopefully this week. Let me know if you have any questions about the TEAS. Good luck to y'all!

Wow, you scored great! I'm sure you're in with that. :) For the undergrad application, they don't really look at letters of recommendation, though. I was told to save those for grad school!
