UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

I'm at utmb. It's an hour and 20 min drive but I'm glad they were my plan b and I love the people at the school

That's great! I wish I would've had a plan b! Congrats they are an amazing school! Good luck this semester!!! I applied to UTMB for the fall.

UT just called me! I was accepted into the summer start accelerated program. I was at work and started crying and jumping up and down. So excited....even more so because I dont have to study for the TEAS....lol! Cant wait! If anyone starts a FB page let me know!

Really.... Do you have a previous bachelors degree?? What all did they say when they called you? I'm very curious because I've applied to the summer start program and I'm anxiously waiting to hear... they say they will start letting us know around March. I'm nervous Nelly here!!

What were your stats if you don't mind me asking (GPA and HESI)?

I was on waitlist for Spring 2013. They called and said although I did not make it into the Spring class would I be interested in the summer start program. I of course screamed and said yes!

I have a previous BS in Psych. Overall GPA- 3.5 (did not do well in some basic classes I took my freshman year in 1988) 4.0- science HESI 93% 850 in Critical thinking

Trust me....I UNDERSTAND....I just went thru it...plus being on the waitlist, we did not get a definite no until the classes officially started. So I went from totally deflated to completely elated!!! So hang in there! Good luck!

That's great, congrats! Now try to relax these next months before the fun begins! ;)

Oceanise.

What's the first week been like???? I would love any hints you learn along the way that would help me be better prepared.

Stock up on ink cartridges for your printer. :)

I guess the best thing I can suggest is make sure you're super organized. Manage your time well to avoid stress as much as possible. The workload seems pretty intimidating, but I've been trying to break it down as best as I can. Like, Thurs I reviewed things I learned during this week. Fri - printed out notes/powerpoint slides and did readings and whatnot to prepare for pharm next week, yesterday - did the same to prepare for care I next week, today I'm doing HA work, and tomorrow I'll work on patho. I want to make sure I'm well prepared by the time exams come, of course.

In addition to the books I needed for class, I picked up a copy of "Med-Surg Success" and "Fundamental's Success" from the Davis' Q&A series for practice questions.

I read the syllabus for each class and make charts ahead of time so I know exactly what to do from one week to another, what's due, when the exams are, etc.

Since it's still early in the semester, I'm still experimenting a bit to see what study techniques work best. After the first exams, I'm hoping to have a clearer idea on what things are the most important to study.

I've noticed it's best when I can apply something I learned in one class to what I'm learning in another class.

I keep a binder for each class so I can keep my handwritten notes and everything I print out together. Again, stay organized, not only with your time, but w/your notes and everything.

I'll try to post back if I learn anything else that might be helpful, haha. :)
