UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

okay, if anyone is curious and in the event that someone is in a similar situation as mine, here is what happened with the credits transferring. My thesis credits didn't transfer for English credits (silly, because I was a literature major but my focus was in Russian and German but oh well) but I can take the CLEP exam to fulfill that requirement. My philosophy credit was accepted. Due to my own silliness (well, that and because my counselor at HCC told me the wrong info! did this happen to anyone else I wonder), I took anthro instead of soc. My boyfriend is getting his phD in anthro at Rice so I took it instead thinking they were equivalent!! Aiyiyyi. We found a solution, though, I can take it in winter mini semester at Lonestar! hoorahhh! going to be a few hoops to jump through but i'm ecstatic that it could be all worked out. so, if you are in a similar-ish situation maybe some of these solutions will work for you.

many calming, cleansing thoughts for all y'all out there who are waiting. my heart goes out to you!

You can take CLEP's for English and Sociology both. You don't need to take a minimester class at all. I wouldn't waste my time with Lonestar because they are not known for getting transcripts to UT in a timely manner.

oh, well that sounds terrible! at lonestar, i'll be cutting it pretty close. i figured i might just physically pick up my transcripts up from lonestar and truck it over to ut. i do like your suggestion of taking the clep exam for sociology instead... did you do this, too? i didn't even know that clep was an option until this week! from talking to joanne at admissions, it sounded like they needed me to take the english exam because it is a state mandate that all students fulfill english composition- and have it be labeled as such distinctly. THANK YOU FOR THE SUGGESTION! i'm thinking about just buying a sociology book and reading it through and taking the test! just to be sure, is doing this cleared with uthsc? i'll call them next week to check... though i'll wait a few days because i thnk i'm probably driving them a bit crazy with my questions. they must be crazy overwhelmed with admissions right now!

i went to a relatively small private liberal arts college (reed college!) that thinks of themselves somewhat as iconoclasts in academia which means, unfortunately, they tend to label their courses differently and have a different kind of grading policy (only eight people have graduated with a 4.0 in a 100+ year history). i really loved studying there but, darn, going through this process makes me wish they were just a bit more standard in their policies!

yup, not till november 7th, i believe! thank you!

If you have taken classes at HCC, then taking the English Composition and Sociology CLEP's directly at HCC are your best bet. They will post sooner to your transcript. But I would hurry up and schedule the dates to take the CLEP's as soon as possible. You can take both on the same day. Neither one is hard. Buy the CLEP Sociology book from Amazon and use it exclusively to study. You don't need additional material. I think each CLEP is $82 at HCC.

Congratulations!!! Now let's get this Micro class out the way. Then teach me all the steps. SN: this is your micro partner!!!

Good new misssophiecase!! even though its over Christmas and new years...whats one sacrificed Christmas and new year to be put on hold to start in the spring right?! make sure you find out the exact enrollment date for the mini-mesters i know they fill up fast.. and i think registration doesn't start until november! best of luck.
Registration begins Nov 7th for the mini mester. Sociology is offered as I plan to take it online. I'm glad to see someone was accepted while still in more than one class. I have A&P 2, Chem and Psyc statistics to complete next semester and I was told they won't even look at my app because of still being in classes when I apply. Guess I'll push forward for Fall 2013 program. Man....I was about to wait until spring 2014.

Hello everyone,

I was accepted into UT Houston for spring 2013!! I've been watching this board for a while, and decided I should probably start posting instead of stalking haha. I'm so nervous and orientation feels so far away! I'm finishing up my prerequs right now. Does anyone know the deadline for getting transcripts turned in? I'm sure the acceptance packet will have more information, buuut since I have no idea when that will arrive! I wasn’t very optimistic about getting in, so I didn’t enroll in my last three classes at the beginning of the semester like I should have. Ugggh, now I’m taking A&P 2 and Chem as 8 week minis so I can start the program. I was planning on taking statistics online through UT Austin; however, I would rather take it as a Christmas mini. My only concern is that it doesn't end until January 4th. That seems like cutting it pretty close! This all feels so surreal!! lol

I'm so glad to see that someone else is considering a class in the mini semester. When I applied I thought that there was no chance of me getting in. I ended up working towards my master's rather than taking my last three prerequs at the beginning of the fall. You can only imagine how upset I was when I got my acceptance email and thought there was no chance of taking my last few classes! Lone star ended up opening a chemistry class literally the Thursday before it began. I had to quit my job in order to attend classes, and rush to both Lone Star and HCC to get enrolled as a new student. So, when I got to my first class I was the only student that showed up!! I pleaded with the instructor and as an act of God he agreed to have the class with ONLY ME in it!! Now, I'm taking two as 8 week classes and statistics as a winter mini. I've been really worried that the class ending on January 4 would be an issue. I'm sure I'll be booking it to San Jac to pick up my transcript and dropping it off to UT in January. The last week has been insane to say the least, but it will all pay off when I'm sitting at UT this spring eeek!

I'm new to this website. I'm not sure if my reply is working right!

Congratulations to those of you accepted. Enjoy your euphoria for a little while, you have earned it! But be prepared come January to stay BUSY! First semester is a BOOGER.... Trust me I am doing it right now....

Have y'all created a FB page yet? If not, I highly recommend doing it right away. There will be lots of people to help you that way. Many upper classmen will be selling textbooks for cheap, and will have great tidbits of information to help guide y'all on this super stressful adventure.

Congratulations again! Look forward to seeing y'all around the campus grounds :)
