UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

Well my last name starts with a B so I doubt it's alpha order...who knows

Mine starts with a C and I've had a green circle since mid August. So I have no idea what order they go in.

No evaluation here yet!!

Anyone know what all courses we are able to take and get out of the way beforehand???

There are no SON courses that are available before being accepted. From what I know of most programs (non-UT specific); all the coursework (past the pre-reqs) are done cohort style. That means you are assigned a section and move through the entire program in that section.

I have heard before that TWU would allow students to take patho before being accepted (but not in Houston), and some ADN programs allow pharm; but I from I can tell UT makes no exceptions.

I talked to a lady from UT who was at HCC and asked her what they look for in their applicants. She said to even be considered, they want a 3.25 gpa and a 75% or better on all sections for the hesi.

At the information session that I attended last spring they quoted a ~3.6-3.7 GPA, ~90% HESI and I forgot the critical thinking score (700?) to be competitive.

I guess they don't have a set criteria..

I also talked to a lady from the SON (at a college fair thing at HCC Spring branch) briefly and mentioned that I applied for spring 2013. According to her, about 700 people applied and there are 150 spots available (someone mentioned this a few pages back, so I confirmed that this is true). This is great news because they increased the number of students accepted and there were less than the 900 applicants that the SON was expecting. :) So I think we all have a great chance of making it. :) I also asked about transcript evals and she said they're still sending them out. So I guess all I can do until Nov is just be patient.

Yeah the lady i talked to told me the same thing.

I applied a year ago but didn't get accepted. There was a few who got in with low scores but lots of people with4.0s didn't get in. It's not all about 4.0's or 90's on the HESI. Noone really knows what they are looking for. They also called two others I knew who were accepted to TWU. They asked them if they wanted to accept but they said no because classes had already started at UT and they would have been behind. So don't lose hope if you don't get accepted the first go-around. I'm going to apply to the UH-BACC2 programs next year. Good luck to all.

What so you mean they "called" two others?
