UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

I just got my second transcript evaluation. Very weird

That's funny...You received 2 evaluations and I'm still waiting on mine.

You should call or email the SON. I did, and I got mine almost a month ago, about a week after I requested them...

What number did you call? I'll probably call them next week if I don't get an evaluation by then. I'm all worried now that everyone else is receiving them!

I've been thinking that a possible reason for people with high GPAs and good scores don't get in sometimes because maybe the school had already filled the possible slots? Since they only accept around 80/semester it seems like just a numbers game you know? I of course don't know this for sure, just speculation but it would make sense. If i don't get in this semester I'm going to keep applying and cross my fingers lol

Yeah, I know what you mean. I just know that it must be different than just ranking applicants and admitting the 80 with the highest scores/grades. Knowing that even some applicants with really high grades and test scores have been turned down in the past sure is disheartening, but I'm trying to keep my hopes up. Also, I can't believe this month is practically over!

Getting an eval does not affect your chances of getting in. Some ppl get them, some don't.

I also live in the spring/tomball/cypress area (right on the edge btw the 3) im free sunday evenings too - i think it would be really fun to meet up

Im applying to UT and PVAMU for the spring 2013 - UT is my first choice of course but i rly hope i get in at least somewhere ...

my hesi was 94 (but CT was 820..) and prereq gpa is 3.78

I think I bugged UT so much when i sent in all my app stuff earlier this month - I kept asking abt how they calculated GPA and why my transcripts were incomplete (because im still enrolled in classes) and why they havent taken my HESI score off my to do list (because they only download them at the end of the month) and can they please do a transcript eval on me and can i please meet with an advisor etc. etc. lol Im pretty sure they all know my name and hate me hahaha or at least the front desk lady does

sighhh

that yellow triangle bugs me so much - i wish it was november already .... I want to know so badly - well - i dont want to know if its bad news tho lol

I still would like to get an evaluation just to see what my GPA came out to be and to make sure classes got transferred. I still find it weird that my status says complete yet I'm still taking 2 classes.

Hey there Spring applicants. Evals come for some but not all. Don't even stress about the yellow triangle... It MEANS NOTHING! Some people, such as myself, had green circles from the start even even though they had not finished all the pre-reqs. This is a new system that they are still getting a hang of. No stressing. I know easier said than done, but all your doing is increasing your cortisol levels which can increase fat storage ;) And your gonna get enough cortisol once your in nursing school, I should know!

As for individuals with high GPA's being turned down vs others..... I know that is seems impossible that anyone with a 4.0 could be turned down.... but each persons story is different and we don't know anyone on heres TRUE story. The internet is the EASIEST place to put falsified "truths". Maybe that person had a 4.0 GPA, and you have a 3.5 GPA..... They may have only taken 2-3 classes a semester till they were done, with taking summers off. You, on the other hand, worked hard to complete EVERYTHING as quickly as possible, working though your summer taking 12-18 hrs a semester. They consider EVERYTHING when looking at us as individuals. They want people who can handle a heavy workload.... Trust me, the work load is ASTOUNDING.... and WILL induce nervous breakdowns, crying sessions, etc.

Good Luck to each of you :-) UTHSC is an awesome, albeit hard school so just relax, your time for stressing out is coming ;)

I have been creeping on this forum for quite sometime now. I wish I found it earlier cos I would have taken more advantage of it. I thank God how time is flying and before you know it, October will be gone and we will be in November. I hope that we will start hearing news by first week of November just like the previous year. Anyway Kudos to everyone!!!!!

Ok, now I'm wondering...who said we would find out online if we are accepted or rejected in October? I want to know if that's a sure thing!!!

I don't rememeber who said it on this forum but I do remember seeing a message on myUTH before the deadline that admission status can be checked after Oct 1st. I'm not sure if that meant green circle or yellow triangle status. I remember on previous forums that people found out their acceptance/denial status online before even receiving a letter so who knows.

Hey, guys! A few days ago, I received a transcript evaluation. I was so excited to get it because I guess it's always nice just to hear back. However, I was looking over it and I realized that they did not count my AP credits that I earned from high school for my 2 Lit classes, Statistics, and Government. I know for sure that those 4 classes did have the same course number as those listed in the prerequisites and all 4 of them were given credit to me on my University of Houston transcript. I've called uthsc numerous times and they just keep connecting me to different people, and now I am left with anxiety! Although I have called so many times this past week, I still haven't gotten an answer for this and I'm just worried that my application will not be considered. If y'all could give me some insight, that would be great! Best of luck to everyone

I had the same exact thing happen to me! I was freaking out because without my AP credits I would not have enough pre-reqs. I called the registrar and had the lady there evaluate my transcript while I was on my phone. I specifically asked her to evaluate my AP credits again. She did that and when she did it, they did in fact transfer! So once those were showing up as credits, she said she would send the new evaluation to the SON. I followed up with the SON and will do so again to make sure they received it. But the registrar is the place you want to call!
