UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:

Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75

Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0

Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.

My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -

Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30

Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! :crying2: )

Overall Gpa: 3.28

Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.

My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.

Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

Just got my rejection letter as well. I didn't apply to any other schools and I don't think I will apply again.

stacymonique,

I'm sorry that you were rejected and for your disappointment. Please don't let a rejection letter keep you from achieving your dreams. Let it inspire you! Application deadlines for other schools are approaching throw your name in those hats and see what happens. If this is what you want to do Go for it! I wish you the best in your future endeavors! May the Lord bless you always!

Kt, stacymonique- I just don't get it. Your stats were great! I'm truly surprised. I'm sure I can expect my rejection letter today as well. Good luck to you Kt at TWU and don't give up stacymonique on nursing. You are obviously a bright and articulate person. Good luck

Sorry to hear those of you who did not get in.. and congrats to those who have been accepted to other schools :)

Stacymonique.. I feel your pain because UTHSC was my only choice this time around but I agree with ktdidit... do not let it get you down. Although I have not received my rejection letter yet, I know that it is on the way. I will reapply but for the spring, but this time I will make sure I have more options.

Waiting for my rejection letter today, too. Congrats to all who made it! This was the only school I applied to so I am unsure of what my next step will be. Does anyone know how the semesters run? I thought it was Fall, Spring, Fall, Spring graduation? Or are summers included? I was hoping to be finished with a program before my daughter starts high school in 2 years. I am considering re-applying to the Spring or Summer, but not sure if I have time. When would a spring 2013 candidate graduate? I can't seem to find anything on the website other than accelerated being 15 mos. and traditional being 24 mos. Thanks!

No go for me as well :mad:. I'll try elsewhere.

Congratulations to everyone that got in!!! I wish you all the best!

@ktdidit

My scores are very similar to yours, and UT Houston is my first choice so this scares me.. I got accepted to UT San Antonio, but I really want to go to Houston. For the people that got in, what are your scores like? I feel like ktdidit's score are extremely competitive. This just doesn't seem right? I would fight it.

Thank you candeeeeeeXD! I think it's just one of those things if it's meant to be then it's meant to be. There is a reason for me not being accepted there! Don't lose your hope, hopefully they'll take you! If not at least you have a back up plan!

@ktdidit

you're so right. if it's meant to be, it will be. I just feel that because they told us our acceptance was based solely on our GPAs and HESI scores you should have had a straight ticket in- and that is why I am so confused. I hope I get in, but I do have a plan B so we'll see what happens! Thanks for your kind words :)

oh no! i am so sorry to hear that y'all did not get in. that makes me sad :( i was hoping for y'all.

for those of you that did not get in and only applied to this school, do not give up hope! there have been people who applied and got 2 or more rejection letters before they finally got in. if this is what you want to do, then don't give up on your dreams!!!!!

for those of you still waiting to hear one way or the other, don't give up hope! i know that some will turn down spots at uthsc to go to other schools.... and no news can be good news. i know the waiting is aweful :( i hope that nobody has to wait much longer to find out.

for those that got in elsewhere, congrats! i know that we will all cross paths again in the hospitals ;) i'll be in the navy blue so please stop by and say hi :) i hope to still hear from y'all from time to time. i wish y'all the best of luck in your programs!!

candeeeeeexd - i sdfjskladjf

i know that some students scores may not be as high as others, and yes those who have competitive scores are getting rejection letters. they explained that there are more than just your scores that they look at, but they don't say what it is exactly. most everyone who got accepted scores are listed several times within the system.... we had some lists with each of our breakdowns... and then once green checks started happening, people were reposting their stats. i wish you good lick on your application.

stacymonique - there is a nursing shortage in some ways.... your right when you say for experienced nurses. they are also wanting more bsn than adn applicants and nursing staff. i have heard more and more of adn's rolling straight into an adn to bsn program because they cannot get a job. i wouldn't take too much stock in what you read, because you never know a full story in that regards. my mother is a nurse and she has told me that there are jobs out there... they are just not always glamorous 1st time jobs. sometimes we must get "dirty" to get to what we want..... i hope that you do not give up all hope of nursing.... there are lots of schools in the area, just re-apply. best of luck!

@Hemphia

I was just wondering, because you said there are other things they look at besides scores- what are they?

CandeeeeeeXD - I wished I could answer your question, but none of us know. I know I was accepted, but determining what criteria they used other than my scores is something I couldn't tell you. We are all in the dark on their decision making process.
