UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:

Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75

Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0

Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.

My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -

Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30

Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! :crying2: )

Overall Gpa: 3.28

Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.

My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.

Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

Hi everyone who is applying for Fall2012,

I planned to apply for Spring 2012 but realized that I have to go back home (out of the states) for a few months so changed my plans for applying for the fall. I was following the Spring 2012 forum and realized something nice over there; they stated a list with everyone on the forum listing there stats (Overall Gpa, pre-req Gpa, Science Gpa, and the Hesi Scores) and I thought that was cool. Why don't we start that too over here- I am sure it would be helpful for many who will join the forum later. I am going to start the list with my stats and if you guys think it is a good idea just copy, paste and add your stats to it. I think it is going to be something cool. I hope all of us get into the program.

Pre-Req GPA: 3.65

Science GPA: 4.0

Overall HESI: 87.86% (A&P was lowest at 80%)

Critical Thinking: 850

And I will be finishing my classes next semester (Nutrition, Stats, Govt, Hist). Good Luck to everyone applying!! I will be submitting my application soon to UTHSC... then UTMB when the application opens.

Warning-sign - I don't have to go through my immunizations again... Thank God! Just gotta have my antibodies tested to show I have had all my vaccines & childhood illnesses (its called a titer test) ;) As for the background check, I did it online through a company that the DPS told me that they use. L1 something or another. I submitted some info online, but I am having my finger prints done Monday. I just decided to check to see if my MIP for alcohol is on there.... When they ran my background 5 yrs ago for me to get my insurance license, nothing came up that I know of..... I just need to confirm, it was a small town that I got it in and I am wondering if it actually went against me.... or if I just paid a fine, and did community service and a class for them to make revenue.... Who knows!

Great Hemphia,

You have great scores too- trust me I have been following the forums for the last two terms and seen who got admission and with what scores. You have good scores..... you have a good gpa, if you want to improve your hesi that is great but try to study well for it. I wish you and everyone else the best of luck.

Wow, Gladiator, your grades are crazy high, I'm so jelous! You even took chemistry!? You will have no problem getting in. Thanks for updating everyone's stats.

Hemphia - Oh, now I remember what a titer is. It sounds like doing a background check is a pain, at least for you, sorry. I'm going to look into it next week.

Thanks Warning-Sign, don't be jealous-you have crazy high scores too. I hope we all get in with no problems....... I took chemistry because I was thinking of applying to other schools too, but I have decided now to stick to UT Health Science. I have all my vaccinations but have not done anything else. I still have to do my application, background check and all the other good stuff. But don't you guys think that we should do the background check after admission.

Hemphia, I hope you would not have any problem with the background check whatsoever. I wish you and everyone best of luck on everything.

I just woke up and came online! funny though I had a weird nightmare about getting arrested for DUI and being fingerprinted in the station.... and all that I was thinking..... Oh my God what did I do, what about nursing school.... and the cop told me: "that should be the least of your concerns; you are being charged with manslaughter coz you hit another car and the man is dead".... I was sooooooo scared and was wishing that this was a dream... Thanks God it was lol.

Hahaha, that story had me laughing so hard!!! But anyways, if you don't have any discrepancies then you don't have to do a background check until after admission. But some people, like me, might have certain dilemas that might disqualify us from being accepted so I want to get it done now to make sure there is no problem.

Lol,

So if you do it now, do you have to do it again after admission?

Well, I hope not, why would I if it would go on the record that I already did it.

Cool, then I am gonna do that too.

I just got my password to access myUTH (where you complete application) and one of the things it says I have to do is: You must provide proof of being TSI Satisfied to the Registrar's Office. Does anyone know what this means?

I think this refers to the TSI test that we took before taking any college level classes. The test is usually either Compass or Thea. Basically these tests check if you are college ready. The test usually includes Math, Reading and Writing. This information should be on your transcripts though.
