I had a feeling it was you I didn't think I was going to ask as many questions as I did. At one point I felt like I was waving a flag... That was a great question about learning styles. After that, I was gonna ask how much that really plays into the acceptance, considering there is no interview process anymore (I didn't coz in my head, the phrasing sounded obnoxious, so I held back. hehehehe).

The one thing that I'm glad that Dr. McEwen mentioned is that in regards to clinicals, they make every effort to work with you in the placement/choices. With these gas prices, I really hope that's true!

I have to look into that rail system at some point. Or car pools. Or maybe I'll invade my sister's home in West U.!

    Hi everyone,

After reading this message board for months, I have finally decided to join. I applied to UTHSC, UTMB and TWU for the Fall of 2012, and am so incredibly nervous to find out if I get accepted! My background and degrees are in architecture, but I recently decided to return to school for nursing. My stats are as follows:

    First Undergraduate GPA: 3.484
    First Graduate GPA: 4.0
    Nursing Prerequisite GPA: 3.9
    Science GPA: 4.0
    HESI: 92.23%

@Hemphia: Thank you so much for all your posts! They have been incredibly helpful and reassuring. I hope, after reading your post following the information session, that I have a good chance of getting in!

hey yall! I'm back I was already accepted last semester, but I thought I would be travelling to India for 6 months so I turned down the opportunity. However my boyfriend and I changed our minds about India so I re-applied for this semester and hopefully I get in.

Retook my Hesi to get a higher critical thinking score. My results:

95% overall 880 on critical thinking. Lowest score was A&P with 88%

    Pre-reqs- 3.9
    Science- 4.0
    undergrad - 3.6

Currently taking Pharmacology at HCC and accepted to their Fall 2012 program. Hopefully I get UT-H though.

Springhopeful- my question was basically asking if they felt that certain learning styles do better in the program. She answered that some do better than others in some areas but then they may be weaker in other areas. She said it is better to be rounded.

Saraiish - I did not apply last semester. This is my first attempt at trying to get into a BSN program. I'm hoping this will be my only time to have to apply. Julianne_Rader - Your welcome. I wish everybody good luck.

Hi encephalon7! Just a quick question, did you study anything in particular to improve your critical thinking score? Thanks.

Good luck getting accepted again this semester! :-)

Yes, I obtained a med-surg study book from my boyfriend and got some pointers on how to "think like a nurse". Think ABCs. Airway, Breathing then Circulation. So someone who is not breathing takes priority over someone bleeding out. Look out for patients who might fall, don't leave a patient alone if they could potentially hurt themselves, anticipate, anticipate. Your job, as a nurse (and as a Hesi test taker) is to PREVENT patient accidents. That is your no. 1 priority. Once I started thinking like that, my Hesi score got way better.

    Hope that helps!

*they call patients "clients" now. lol

Thank you soo much for this bit of information!!!! I got an 830 on the Hesi and plan to retake it to do better which will bring my overall Hesi to an A! I got an 87 overall when I took it this December Critical Thinking really stumped me and thinking your way should certainly help. & I am going to try and find similar study materials.

Be careful on how many times you take the HESI! For UTH, you can only take it twice. Ever. They are very strict when it comes to that.
