UTA FALL 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...

Post away!

@thomasphan

That's exactly my GPAs. From reading the blogs I think your very competitive for the traditional but the AP program is hard to get in to if you're not partnered.

UTA is starting to clarify things a bit more. I noticed on the current AP-BSN prerequisite sheet, it now states that current hospital-employed applicants will have priority (it's small, but it's there now). Perhaps had they left the AP-BSN as a secondary degree program along with partnered applicants it would have made chances of getting in better for those of us who have a prior degree. I do see why a first-degree person would benefit though. I think perhaps another reason why they are so overwhelmed is because they are the only public university in the metroplex offering a BSN. Many will opt to just get their BSN right off especially as hospitals begin moving to desiring BSN nurses.

I would tell anyone to apply EVERYWHERE. I, and several others, put a lot of faith into getting into UTA and didn't apply to other places. Big mistake. I was very lucky to get called off of waitlist for traditional. From what I understand, I was the last person to enter the program. I wanted the AP program, yes, but I am happy to be in no matter where I am. I had planned on applying to every community college this fall and even the private universities (with hopes of a GOOD FA package) just to increase my chances of getting accepted somewhere. I was totally prepared to do the ADN route and from there do the RN-BSN.

Also, as an FYI, we had orientation Thurs/Fri and I heard that one person didn't even show and another decided to drop the program. So that means, hopefully, two more will get the opportunity to come in.

Don't give up. I know, so easy for me to say this now, but truly. It will happen. This was my second time applying and I came REALLY close to having to apply a third time. If there is anything you feel you can do to increase your chances, do it. Retake classes that you did not do as well in. Retake the HESI if possible. You will get in eventually.

Do you mind sharing your GPAs? That would be extremely helpful

Chelsey,

Tomeka Fortune told me that a total of 24 had applied last week. I heard from others in the program(or that have graduated) that THR filled 30 spots when they started. I asked Tomeka how many spots they had and she told me that she was not sure yet today.

What do you do at HMFW Chelsey? I recieved an email from Tomeka telling me I needed to have my CNO sign the paper that your director fills out and signs. I work in admissions so I don't think I have a CNO! Do you know anything about that?

My stats are as follows

3.5 science GPA

3.75 UTA GPA

3.5 or 3.6 total GPA..I am not sure what it is because I go to both TCC and UTA! After this semester at UTA I will have a total of 30 hours at UTA and the rest from TCC. What do yall think about the learning style and personality being on the HESI exam...? Those are 2 very specific things to test over if they are not really considered!

Thanks for the words of encouragement Libra! Good luck!

MEGREEN,

I just got off of the phone with Kim and she said again that there are 20 spots open for THR, 10 in Dallas and 10 for FW!! She told me that she did not know the exact number that applied from THR so is Tomeka Fortune an adviser and is that 24 from all THR hospitals for just Fort Worth?

I work as a night sitter right not therefore I float but I am looking for a perm. night PCT position, what do you do?

I have a 3.4 all together and this semester I'm taking Pharm, Patho, Intro.

Studentjen07, that is a really great gpa, are you partnered?

chelsey,

who is kim? tomeka fortune is a career development consultant for thr she is the person that handles the applications for the partnership program at uta. you had to contact her in order to get the thr stamped paperwork for the application and she turns them in for us. i submitted my application directly to her and she sends it to uta.

have you looked online? i think there are a few pct openings at hmfw in the er....if i get in i am planning to transfer to pct asap! i am so ready to be out of my department!

MEGREEN what is her number? Also I just messaged you so check you inbox.

I ended with a 3.75 science GPA and 3.76 prereq GPA. Frankly, though, when ranking occurred, they may have had 3.5 for my science GPA as my micro didn't finish until mid October.

I got my confirmation for turning in my application today in my UTA email! I am so excited that I am finally applying! I feel like I have been working towards this for forever! The email was like my final confirmation that it is finally really happening!:yeah:

Did I read correct when it said that they hope to have the letters on if we got in or not by April of 2012?

I submitted my app in person around the last week of 2011. When should I expect my confirmation email?
