I've signed up for Pre-orientation for next week. Anyone else on the forum going? I'm all registered and have everything turned in.

I'm slowly buying supplies and books. I haven't gotten any loan money yet so I'm just working with what's left over from my monthly budget. I have a few books, my scrubs, and shoes. I'm so nervous and excited.

How far is everyone along in getting books, supplies, ect? Did anyone else sign up for a senior buddy? How are you planning on getting to school?

Hi Adrian!

I'm going next week too. I have gotten almost everything-I guess I need a few more pairs of scrubs though. And the patches and all that. I'm still waiting on 2 of my books to come in the mail-hopefully they will come before I move to Houston on Saturday!

I meant to sign up for a senior buddy but I completely forgot. Oh well... I am going to be walking to campus since I am living in the dreaded Favrot apartments in the med center. Personally I think they sound worth it since they're cheap, convenient and all bills paid. I'm really scatter brained about bills-so all bills paid saves my life.

I'm getting excited! :-)

I've only bought one pair...I don't know how many we need. I'll likely get at least one more pair. Also, I only have like two of the books, hopefully they will give us more info on which ones are actually required at orientation.

Good luck on your move. I haven't heard anything about Favrot apartments, sounds like a great way to save some cash and its only temporary.

I will be there next week too! I think I have all my supplies with the last two books finally arriving yesterday.

Adrian, how far are you having to commute? I am on the far North side so it will take me about an hour to get there. It's alright though, I'm sure it will be worth it.

Guess I will see you both on Monday. :)

I live in the Medical center already and will likely take a combo of the bus and metrorail to get there. I dont live far from the Fannin metrorail station. Looks like most days we will be starting at 9am which is good for the commute.

See you there amm.

Since you guys have already gotten into the nursing program, how hard was it to get into the school? what do they look at?

also, what was the NET test like?

thanks!

Hi simpleone.

I think getting in is a combo of grades, NET and experience. There are a LOT of people coming in from local community colleges and also a lot of people working on a second degree. I really think they take a look at each applicant holistically. I think the only thing that held me back and put me on the waiting list was my GPA from my previous degree. But, I got called off the waiting list so getting into N/s with "ok" grades is possible.

I thought the NET was very easy its basic reading, math, and grammar.

Hi you guys and congradulations on getting accepted! I'll be starting this fall too and had signed up to go to the pre-orientation but could not. How was it? Did you learn alot and meet alot of other students starting in September also? I am so excited and can hardly wait. I have been reading the threads on this forum for a very long time but just joined it tonight after reading this one. It is so neat to see others about to start the same program.

Hi allbran, welcome allnurses. I attended the first two days, the weather was just too horrible today. I dont think you missed much most stuff you can find out the first few weeks and I'm sure will be covered again at some point. You did miss a free goodie bag and free food.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thank you so much for answering my question. I guess everything is piling on too quickly and got me nervous.

I was thinking about doing the NET in Oct, so I have a whole month of just practicing various tests. Do you think that'll be good?

I've had no experience, I'm from a Community College so I guess they'll only be looking at my grades and NET. Are you sure that that's what they're only going to be looking at?

Thanks again, it was very very helpful!

I didnt study long for the NET but, its all about how comfy you feel after looking over practice questions. I don't know all they look at and I can''t tell you that for sure but, its a combination of grades, NET, experience, ect.

Goodluck.

Goodluck.

one last question! First off, do I have to do an interview for regular BSN program? and secondly, would they look at volunteer hours and groups/clubs you were in?

I want to volunteer, maybe that would help my chances.

and seriously, thank you!!
