UT Houston INTERVIEW... please help me.. thanks!

i have an interview for the university of texas health science center. i'm happy and very nervous.

i will have a writing sample and personal interview... it will last 4 hours total. wow!

can you guys give me some advice? what was it like for you? what was the interview process like? what was the writing sample about? please tell me everything you know to ease my nervousness. thank you!!!! :D

Specializes in NICU, PICU, Family Medicine.
The writing sample is based on a medical situation to see how you are with your critical thinking. My situation was a 17 year old boy who is brain dead and his mom and stepdad want to donate his organs. How do you handle this? The interviewer asked me the following questions: Please tell me about you and your background. Why do you want to be a nurse? What is your definition of compassion? Give an example of how you showed compassion to a patient. How many times did you take A & P II? (Also some others but I'm drawing a blank right now). I would recommend that your dress code be business (when you mean business you dress for business!).

Those are the same quetsions I was asked and the critical thinking too! She did asked if i had any medical experience( i had jx gotten my CNA card). And u'll be asked to discuss hw u can manage the semester work load.

Wow, getting admitted 2 weeks before the start of class is cutting it close, but at least you have handled just about everything needed. That guaranteed you that spot for the Fall! I'm sure you will be just fine.

Yes, it is overwhelming and now I have to begin everything as well, but I am just as grateful. Good luck on finishing everything up and getting ready to start in two weeks! Please keep us posted on how the program goes and what to expect. :nuke:

would you mind telling me what your NET scores and GPA were? thanks....just wanted to see where I am in comparison

wait....you got admitted for the fall of 2009 or spring 2010? I am confused.

I was admitted for Spring 2010. The other poster lilywhite was admitted to Fall 2009.

would u mind haring your gpa and NET math and reading scores please?

I only had an overall GPA of about 3.65. My science GPA was 3.75. My NET math score was around 97% and Reading was 92%. I was kind of nervous about my GPA, but the NET scores and a great interview made up for that difference. It goes to show that you do not need a 4.0 to get accepted into UT.

Good luck!

wow awesome on the reading section....I suck at prediciting outcomes....what was your method on those types of questions? also would you mind telling me why you were waitlisted before? I am so anxious so sorry for asking so many personal questions....it just helps

first of all, congratulations to those of you who were just accepted! does anyone know how many students they are admitting from this waitlist group? i'm a bit confused by this...how do they admit some students without comparing gpas, net scores, and interviews of the regular spring applicants?

yayyy!! luckily for me i have all of my shots, cpr, physical exams done...i stll need the background check n drug screening, which should be over by the end of this week. Kinda overwhelming and i was expecting it, giving admission @ 2wks to the start of class but i'm grateful!

Congrats Lily! Quick question- what type of CPR class are we required to take? I checked American Heart Association and they had 15 different kinds. I thought there was only one type of CPR but i guess not. HA!

I just want to say to everyone who has recently interviewed with UT SON for Spring 2010 admission, check your Utlink status! The wait may finally be over.

I checked this morning, after checking everyday for the millioneth time :behindpc:and my status now says: You have been granted provisional admission. Admission letter in the mail.

I GOT IN!!!

It's like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I am sooo excited! :nurse:

Good luck to everyone who has already interviewed as well as those who are applying, and please update when you find out about your acceptance! :yeah:

Hey OnMyWay- will you post when your packet comes in the mail and I guess what city you live in too? Im trying to figure out how long these things take to come in for future reference. Thanks!

DFIRP1,

I received a call from an Admimissions Coordinator informing me of my acceptance, and she stated that it would take about two weeks for the packet to arrive. I am located in Houston.
