Has anyone any experience with UMC???

They have given me a great offer, and the recruiter keeps telling me how wonderful it is, but I have not talked with any of the nurses there. I live over 3 hours away right now from there, so I can not just "pop" in and see them.

Any experiences with Lubbock period?

I HATE THEIR WATER!!!!!! And the streets. UGGG. On-star I need you!!!

Thanks for the replies.

I did not work at UMC, I worked at Covenant and had good working conditions while there. Most people I know that work at UMC left Covenant only for the Sign On bonus and they all said that they enjoyed there 2 years they spent there, but they ALL came back to Covenant. UMC is a teaching facility that some people have trouble adjusting to that type of environment.

As far a Lubbock as a town, I loved living there. We moved when my husband graduated from law school. Lubbock is a super friendly town, and getting around is very easy. All numbered streets (82nd, 66th, 19th) run east/west, and then named street run north/south. And then THE Loop will take you around the whole town. Shopping is good for a town its size. Big mall, good grocery stores (United). Good luck in your decision!

Thanks alot. I appreciate your input..... I still do not know what I want to do.....

I am a recent grad and new employee at UMC. I had such wonderful clinical expirences during school, i knew that UMC was the only place in Lubbock that I would work. Over 3/4 of my graduating class is at UMC and love it. The doctors work well with the nursing staff and because it is TTU's teaching hospital, they have state of the art equipment and every type of specialist you could ever need. UMC doesnt have to offer sign on bonuses because usually people really want to work there and they are now actually beginning retention bonuses. Its a fabulous hospital and the only one I would reccomend in Lubbock.

I worked at UMC for 9 years. I only lasted at the other large hospital in Lubbock for 9 MONTHS. I would highly recommend it.

As a matter of fact, the other RN in my office also worked at UMC and loved it. They give you a great experience and it has a fun atmosphere. I have lived here all of my life and wouldn't recommend another HOSPITAL to work at in Lubbock.

Like the other post said. It is a really easy town to get around in.

Hope you enjoy it if you decide to come.

Most of my friends are working at UMC. They say its great. They hire new grads in MICU, Cardiac ICU. I would probably be there if I didnt get a great job with Cargill.
