U.S.A. Texas

Hello!:yeah:

I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?

After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.

So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!

I went ahead and created a FB group page for Houston. The link is below.

Hello All!

I am the Nursing Admissions Coordinator at the Denton campus, where we process the applications. I have spoken/emailed with many of you here. There is a lot of buzz on this forum about the acceptances having gone out and who did or did not get one. I just created this account yesterday to come on here and dispel a few rumors - to make sure the right info is out there.

First off, yes, this has been the most competitive semester we have had in recent history. Some very good students did not make it in. We advisors are shocked at some of the fantastic students who did not make it in - truly just amazed. Please know though, that everything was done fairly according to our admission formula - the same formula we have used for several years now. This formula figures in your prerequisite GPA and TEAS V scores, and then additional points that are added for the following things: first attempts on A&P I, A&P II, Microbiology and Statistics; having over half of your prerequisite courses from TWU; and then having a prior bachelor's degree. The formula is calculated for every eligible student and then the students are ranked by that total score. The highest ranked students make it in, with each campus taking about 100 students. That’s out of almost 900 total applications. We do not pick and choose - no favorites are played.

Yes, a student with a lower GPA could get in over someone with a higher GPA, but the admitted student would have to have a different set of preferences or TEAS scores that made all the difference. Sometimes, it's a tiny difference between two students that makes one get in and the other not.

Making an "A" in one of the first attempt preference classes is pretty much the same as the preference awarded for having a bachelor's degree. We don't weigh having a bachelor's degree higher than everything else. It's just a preference.

Okay, with that being out there, I know a lot of you are contacting me and others here at the Denton campus to find out your status on the “wait list.” Well, there’s no separate “wait list,” per se. Should we get a lot of declines (or students who do not respond by the deadline), the program coordinators could come back and ask for a few more. In that case, we will take the next students on that rank ordered list. No rejections are sent out until we have a full confirmed list.

I would like to request that students NOT contact us to ask about your status on the list. We are in the middle of our busiest advising season and our daily schedules are booked back to back with advising. We try to accommodate and let you know where you stand, but it’s crazy here with students, advising, phone calls, emails, etc. (I actually typed this up on my lunch break yesterday). Further, because of that, I don’t expect to really check this forum for responses. In general, your best source for information about the program and application is to contact us directly at [email protected], but please be patient with us right now. If you’ve not gotten an acceptance email, but you’ve also been accepted elsewhere, I’d say go for the other program. Don’t call to find out your status with us. The nursing admissions climate these days basically says you should go where ever you make it in. It’s hard to make it in anywhere.

Oh, and one last thing – we rarely transfer in any coursework towards our nursing program. This includes pharmacology and pathophysiology - specially nursing coursework from community colleges, since it is lower level (freshmen/sophomore) coursework and our courses are advanced level.

Congratulations to the ones that made it in - you should be receiving your niformation packets from the campus to which you were accepted within the next two weeks. Best of luck to those who didn't make it in this time. I hope you either get in next semester, or make it in somewhere else.

I'm just really glad I emailed in. I know the coordinators are under a TON of pressure right now, and I've been in IT long enough to know that this kind of stuff happens and you just have to roll with the punches.

Is your TWU bump included in your 3.77 or did you get higher than that? Just wondering.

I am so glad that I can go there. I will decline other school. because TWU is my first choice. all nurses in the hospital suggest me choose TWU.

Has anyone received an acceptance email since the first round of emails went out?

I was wondering the same thing.
