TWU Houston Spring 2015 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi - I am applying to TWU Houston Campus for Spring 2015 and I wanted to see any other 2015 TWU hopefuls out there!

I will be taking Microbiology this summer so that I can have my core courses completed by Sept. 1st. As of right now I have first-try A's in AP I and II as well as Statistics... Just need to get my Micro completed and out of the way. I am a very nervous because I was not as focused on school as I should have been when I was younger. My cumulative GPA is only 3.4. Ugh! My prereq GPA is 3.8.

Also, I took the dreaded TEAS V test this week and my score was not as high as I would have liked but I passed! 77%. Anyone else take their TEAS yet? How did you do?

Your just going to be excited and anxious until you receive your letter. At the info session we were told that we have to make a 64 or above in all sections. Also the average score on the teas is 80 and above to be considered competitive. Also if you already attend twu you have a preference or if you already have a degree you get a preference. They have done away with the first attempt with an A. Of course the higher your gpa and teas the better.

Thank you so much for your helpful information!! :)

I took the teas today and I got an 85%. My GPA is a 3.5. Compared to other people who have put up their stats earlier, I feel like what I got isn't good enough. I have no more classes to take. I can just apply and hope the odds are in my favor.

Hi all! I also am in the process of applying for the Spring 2015 cycle. I took my TEAS yesterday as well and got an 88%, my GPA is about a 3.5. This whole process is giving me so much anxiety. Does anyone know after you apply to TWU initially how long it takes to receive acceptance to apply to TWU Houston Nursing? I realized today I hadn't yet done mine so I completed it and currently attempting to send electronic transcripts. Also is there anywhere to check on the status of the general application? I'm assuming for Houston it'll be in the PioneerPortal.

Chavoncrn, When you say they've done away with first attempts, they aren't going to take them into account anymore for applicants?

Correct the lady at the info session said that they have done away with that preference method but the higher your gpa the better your chances will be.

Hi [COLOR=#003366]TabithaDeleon, I think your scores are great! I think most people would say that the TEAS is harder and making a level of "Advanced" (I think 80% and above) is competitive.

It took about a week for me, but I called before it was updated on my account. Keep calling them to make sure they have everything. They are good in answering and giving you your status!

You can also check online through your Pioneer Portal then clicking on WebAdvisor. But I think calling them will get you the info you want to know right away.

I got accepted last year (but chose another school) and they emailed me my acceptance letter on October 16th. And the confirmation of acceptance had to be sent by the 28th.

The wait is the hardest part, but it's good to know we are all waiting together!

I still have access to my twu email from last year and wanted to share this one about the new admission requirements here:

The TWU College of Nursing has just approved two important revisions to the criteria for consideration for admission to upper-division nursing. This new criteria will go in to effect[COLOR=red] immediately, and thus will be used when considering applicants for the Spring 2015 admission to nursing (September 1, 2014 application deadline). The two changes that have been made are:

- Minimum 64% score required on [COLOR=red]ALL SECTIONS of the TEAS V entrance exam

Previously, we only required a composite score of 64% or higher to be considered. While our rule is to only allow students to take the TEAS once per admission cycle, FOR THIS CURRENT ADMISSION PERIOD ONLY, ENDING WITH THE SEPT. 1, 2014 DEADLINE, we will allow students to take the exam more than once in order to attempt to obtain the minimum required section scores. The most recent exam will be used for admission purposes.

- Preferences for earning an “A” on the first attempt at A&P I & II, microbiology, and statistics will no longer apply.

All other criteria have remained the same. In order to be considered minimally eligible for consideration to upper-division nursing, a student must have the following by the relevant nursing application deadline:

- A 3.00 (minimum) prerequisite GPA. If a prerequisite class is retaken, we include the most recent grade in the calculation of the GPA (whether higher or lower).

- Completed (with a posted and transferred grade, if necessary) at least 46 semester hours of the nursing prerequisites, with the remainder of the prerequisites due to be completed prior to beginning the nursing program.

- Completed (with a posted and transferred grade, if necessary) the nursing core prerequisites, to include Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition, Developmental (lifespan) Psychology, and Statistics.

- Passing TEAS V exam scores. As noted above, passing is now defined as a 64% on all sections.

- Submission of the application for upper-division nursing, found in Pioneer Portal, and the $30 application fee.

Those meeting minimum eligibility will be ranked based upon GPA and TEAS scores (the higher, the better), with additional consideration given to those who have earned at least half of their prerequisites from TWU (the “TWU Bump”) and those who have a prior bachelor’s degree.

I know it's redundant, but I wanted to share just in case, while keeping myself busy!

Hey all! I have also applied to TWU and other houston/galveston schools. My prereq gpa is 3.5 and science gap is 3.75, TEAS score was 73.. (SCIENCE WAS THE WORST) and I ran out of time in the math section. I hate this waiting process. :/ Good luck to all the applicants.

Thanks for the help! It's taking a bit to get one of my transcripts received by them, but hopefully it'll be updated in a day or two so I can get the rest of this process moving :) Also, thanks for posting that email with the updated requirements, it definitely helped clarify. I for one am slightly enthused they no longer use the preferences system :p!

Same here!!! (About the time it is taking for the transcript and doing away with former grading scale) I am so excited and nervous. I hope for the best for everyone!!!

Hey 2015 applicants! I just wanted to stop by and hopefully give you guys more reassurance on getting in. Yes they look at your GPA but they don't take into consideration the 1st attempts anymore. Second.. yes they look at your TEAS score but be sure its above 64 in all subjects. With that being said, I scored an 85% on my TEAS but that was after the 3rd time taking it and I still got into the program. So for anyone who is worried and stressing about their TEAS scores , please be very hopeful because there is still a very good chance of you getting in! I wish the best of luck to you guys and if you have any questions just hit me up!
