TWU Fall 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!

I am starting this thread... a year early. That is how much I want to be accepted into the Fall 2013 BSN program at TWU in Dallas. I am taking my TEAS on August 30 so that if I have to, I can take it again the following application period (after September 1). I have finished my prerequisites (last week of Summer AP2 right now, hurray).

I hope other people see this forum so that we can all talk and encourage each other about getting into the program (and be stressed out together)! Seriously hoping that this next year flies by! I Look forward to get to know other hopefuls!

Hey all! I took the TEAS in August as a practice as well. I got a 78.7% and I'm going to definitely take it again. I studied with the study guide they sell in the TWU book store and highly discourage it for anyone else. There were so many typos, especially in chemistry!! I am going to study with the ATI study guide this time. I was also thrown off by the weird plant and atmosphere questions on the TEAS. Did anyone else get questions like these?

Currently I am retaking government, history, and financial and quantitative literacy - and then also pathophysiology. I think most of the people in the patho class applied for Spring 2013.

If I get A's on the classes I'm retaking this semester I'll have a 3.621 GPA and a 4.021 with the bump. I have A's in all the preferences except for A&P2 (shouldn't have taken both A&Ps in the summer!)

Does anyone know if I should apply after I take the TEAS late January? Does it matter if you apply early? I'm sooo nervous even now.

I'm glad there's a forum with people in similar situations. I bet we'll all have stress ulcers by April. Good luck!

We're using the TEAS 5 as an entrance exam, and I have found little correlation of teas score to success in the program. Waste of time & money I think.

Yea, I think it is a good idea to take the test beforehand as a test run before the actual deadline. Trust me, I applied to another nursing program last year and was not worried about the test, but of course, things came up that day and my mind wasnt right and I ended up not doing as well as I would have liked.

The advisors at TWU said that an 80 is a competitive score, so I think as long as your GPA is solid and you are close to an 80, you should be good. 78 is not a bad score at all!

As far as studying, I would recommend the ATI Study Manual all by itself. Don't waste your money on any others. It gives you great reviews and practice tests that are VERY similar to the actual exam. Read it front to back and do EVERY practice test and especially the ones at the very end that are over all the sections. I timed myself and everything just like the real thing and my scores on that were pretty much the same as I got on the actual test.

You can apply whenever you want, just be sure you can send in the results before the Feb 1 deadline. Good luck to everyone!

Broonie - did you take the test prior? I know that you posted your recent score and it was awesome. I got an 84.5 and now looking at the SPRING 2013 forum - the TEAS V scores are all over the place for those accepted. I am wondering if I should retake it. On the one hand I think that if I take it again I would definitely do better but on the other hand the nerves from knowing I MUST do better might get to me and make me do worse...

Such a dilemna.

Stats again: 3.596 GPA (4.0 science 4/4 First Attempt A's) and 84.5 on TEAS V.

Hey nanerz, I did not take this test prior, it was a different one completely that was called the PSB. This was my first time taking the TEAS V, but i wanted to take it early enough so I could retake it before my Feb 1 deadline if I needed to improve my score. In my opinion, I think your score is great. I told myself if I scored anything over an 80, I would not retake it. Soooo, I actually think you are good, but you know, I am not the one picking, haha. But based on all the posts i have read on here over the past few semesters, I think you have a pretty good shot!

Hi all,

I'm also applying to TWU fall 2013. I hope everyone who is applying for Fall will pass! I'm planning to take TEAS V sometime in November, but I haven't got an acceptance letter as a transfer student. I thought I would register TEAS after getting the letter from TWU... I applied as transfer student about 3 weeks ago. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get it from TWU? Good luck to you all!

kkai, it took my application maybe about a week or two to get accepted and my transcripts in and updated. Maybe it takes longer the further into the semester you wait to apply? I applied back in august when the application first opened. Good luck on your TEAS! :)

Call the office of admissions - it's the fastest way to get the answer to your question. Also, I think it might take longer because if the application period isn't open like carlajeanx3 said.

Thank you, carlajeanx3 and nanerz13! I called TWU Denton, and it turned out that I was accepted already! Now, I can take TEAS V, but I was wondering when the application for nursing program open? I thought that you could apply now. But I guess it's not open yet? Then, that means you cannot send the TEAS score although you take it now? I thought I would use the "1st transcript sent for free" to TWU, but if the application is not open yet, I can't do that, can I?

Your score will still be sent to TWU regardless of whether application period is open or not. I think it opens in December but that is just what I think I remember my advisor telling me.

I was told today the average TEAS V score was an 82%... I think I'm going to retake it. Or maybe take a winter-mester and raise my GPA by .1+

oops I meant to quote someone...

I was tricked by Puny Punnet Squares. I have to figure out how those work...apparently they're pretty easy. Also Math. Must. Study. More.
