Feel free to share any questions, concerns, tips with your peers. What made you decide on nursing? What previous health care experience do you have? What is your current science GPA, overall GPA, and TEAS score? What is your previous degree, if any?

Hello!!! Yay! I'm so happy someone started this! I dropped off my app on Monday! This wait until march is going to kill me! I have been a CNA for 6 years, overall transfer GPA at Tx State is 3.38, science like 3.1. Teas scores met the minimum but not exactly where Id like. As far as nursing... I'm a helper! I love people! I want to make a tangible difference, and caring for others is my "place!" I cannot wait to hear from everyone! Good luck y'all!

Ps. Anyone know if we need to activate our Tx state email or should notifications come to our personal email addresses?

Specializes in NICU.

Hi everyone! Its only been a few weeks but I'm already anxious to hear! Here are my stats.

Overall GPA: 3.2

Science GPA: 3.7

Overall TEAS: 88.7%

TEAS reading: 95%

TEAS math: 90%

TEAS science: 83%

TEAS english: 86%

I am a part time unit clerk in the NICU and a part time caregiver for an elderly family friend but I don't hold any certifications like CNA or anything. I'm really hoping my TEAS score and my essay will give me an edge since my GPA isn't fantastic. I just keep hoping there's only 99 (or less!) other applicants with higher grades than me! haha. It all comes down to who else applies. I put all my eggs in the Texas State basket because I don't want to relocate so I really hope I get in. Otherwise, I don't know what I'd do with myself for another year!

Reading last year's threads on Texas State, it seems like they send out emails for background checks sometime in Februrary so I would definitely activate your Texas State email and check it regularly.

Good luck everyone!

Ok so did everyone see where the deadline has been extended to June 2?! It's pretty frustrating knowing I took off work to turn in my app so it was in by the deadline. I hope they maybe give extra credit to those who met the original deadline. I'm also wondering why they did extend it?! Quantity of applicants? Quality of applicants?! Anyone know what's going on, or heard from the school?!

I spoke to Lynn Heimerl who stated that applicants who submitted their documents by the January 15 deadline- nothing has changed including letting applicants know of their application status in late March. The deadline was extended to recruit additional qualified applicants. They have started to send out the emails for background checks and it goes to whatever email you put on your application, not necessarily your Texas State email. Good luck!

Yeah I found the announcement on the SON website, I thought it was an emailed announcement and was looking for an email that didn't exist.

I am an applicant this year and just noticed that they extended the deadline. I also think this is a little unfair, as I probably would have taken the TEAS again if I had the time, I'm not super un-happy with my score, but I know I could have scored higher with more time. Ah Well. Has anyone gotten their background check email yet? I have not received anything as of tonight, of course checking my email like a crazy person everyday! I'm so worried it will go to my junk mail and I'll miss it!
