Teaching hospitals in Dallas area

I'm currently an L&D nurse in a teaching hospital and am looking to relocate to the Dallas suburbs early next year. I've worked at both teaching and non-teaching facilities and I definetly prefer the dynamics of a teaching hospital. I understand Parkland and Baylor are teaching hospitals but are there any other ones to consider in the DFW area?

Parkland, Baylor, Zale Lipshy University Hospital...which is (I think) grouped under the new term UT Southwestern Hospital system. If you are interested in peds, Children's Medical Center Dallas is also a teaching hospital, as well as a level I peds trauma facility.

St.Paul is grouped with the UTSW system as well.

Parkland is the county hospital and is one of the top "baby-producing" hospitals in the country. A working knowledge of Spanish for L&D would serve you well. Many area OB-GYNs and CNMs did their training at Parkland.

If you're looking at the Ft Worth side of the fence, it would include John Peter Smith (JPS) and Harris Methodist. (I think Harris is teaching...)

Good luck with job hunting & relocation!

Has anyone had any experience in parklands ICU? How is it?

Specializes in Operating Room.

UT Southwestern Zale doesn't have L&D to my knowledge, but their other facility, USTW St. Paul does.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) :)

I would look to St. Paul, Baylor and Parkland.

St. Paul- It is a teaching facility but feels like a private institution.

Baylor- Same thing.

Parkland- It is a teaching facility and county facility, will provide the most opportunity to be challenged daily.

Pay is comparable to all. Staffing fluctuates, as in all hospitals. All three facilities can boast about longevity in their staff.
