Tarrant County College fall 2013

Welcome! I thought it was time to start a new thread for TCC fall 2013 applicants and future hopefuls. I've followed the past 2 threads for TCC and there are at least a handful of us finishing up pre-requisites this summer and fall.

Feel free to join the conversation and pass the word to others.

Awesome! I'm getting really excited but I know the wait is going to feel like eternity. How's your first semester going so far? I know they say you shouldn't work during nursing school but I'm going to have to figure out how to do both because I need to keep my benefits for school. Do you feel like it's doable?
I'm doing very well right now with working full time, so it is doable! The nursing program is tough and challenging, and time management is a MUST!

Thank you sooo much for your answer! I was getting so worried about all of that. Especially, since none of the staff could tell give me a straight answer, it was always yes, then no, then it would really help if you did.... OMG -__- So do I even have to get the MCV4 if I'm a current tcc student? I just don't want to not do the 3 things I mentioned above then, my app gets denied. So much stuff going on at this time, plus I take my HESI next Tuesday! So how was the HESI (especially the Math portion)??

Thanks again (:

I made a 95.5 on the HESI. I got a 96 on math, 96 on grammar, 100 on reading comprehension, and 90 on vocab. I found it to be very similar to the study guide with the exception of the vocabulary section. Some of the words were not in the study guide and were difficult to figure out the meaning of.

Good luck!

I got my lowest score on vocabulary too. Labile & efface (nonmedical definition) were 2 of the ones I could remember that got me. I'm just glad it's over. I'm having my titers drawn next week and my 2nd Hep B will be the last day of the application period.

We don't need the physical exam done for the application right?

Right. Once you're accepted they'll send you a form to be filled out by a physician.

Has anyone had titers done? Mine came back immune for measles, rubella, and varicella but my mumps was borderline. I'm going to need a booster. Does anyone know if titer results and documentation of a single dose of MMR will work for the application? I hate to call and ask the nursing department at this point but I might not have a choice.

I had a varicella titer back in October for work. As far as the MMR... I would imagine since the titer isn't positive they are going to want two doses. But I could be wrong.

I went in on Thursday and turned in some of my stuff and talked to an advisor. I am still lacking Hep B 3 and Tdap and also have to do titers for MMR and varicella; she just requested that I try to get the Tdap done by the deadline and get the titers done as soon as possible. I haven't seen anywhere that the MCV4 is required, except for the standard requirement for college. I am over 30 so I hope that I don't have to have it; she didn't mentioned it. Kristajaye-How long did it take to get the titer results back?

I had blood drawn on Tuesday and had my results back in about 48 hours. I am getting my 2nd Hep B and my MMR booster on Thursday before I turn in my application. Since I need an MMR booster, I did some research. I found out that you have to get the MMR done at the same time as a TB test or wait at least 4 weeks after the MMR before you get the TB test. The MMR can cause a false negative on the TB test. I am planning to get my Tdap with my physical and then get my TB test and final Hep B done after summer 1. I am looking forward to getting all of these shots done and over with!

Hey guys, sorry for all the questions. I've never been to the TCC Trinity River campus. Everyone is saying to not turn it into the main building?

You'll want to turn it in to the Allied health building. It's on the same street, just further up. Their address is:

245 E. Belknap Street

Fort Worth, TX 76102

If you park in their parking lot, just go into building TRHA and find the elevator and go to the 4th floor. Once you exit the elevator go to your right a few feet and turn left down the hall. The advisor is in room 4008 (once you turn left its straight down the hall)
