Second degree BSN programs in Houston area

  1. Hi,

I graduated from USC (University Southern California) with degrees in Business and Psychology, but I decided to go back to school for nursing for a career change after some life changes. I started taking my prerequisites (California schools don't require you to take US history I and II or Government specifically), and I have already started my science requirements as well. I'm looking into accelerated programs that are geared for 2nd degree BSNs. I'm a single mom of two kids, so I can't relocate; the program must be in Houston area. I know of UH Sugar Land and UT Health so far, but does anyone know of any other similar programs that can be completed in 3-4 terms once the prerequisites are done?

    Thanks in advance!

Look at Online University | Accredited Online College Degrees | WGU prelicensure program in Houston. It is not accelerated per se- but takes 2.5 years. HOWEVER, all 'classroom' work is delivered online, and the clinical format makes it possible to maintain a job while completing the program.

Texas Woman's has a two year program (summers off) in Houston geared towards those who have completed all prerequisites. I would estimate about half of my class has prior bachelor's.

Oh thanks! Ok, I did look at theirs, but it was 2 years vs 1 year, and I didn't realize the summers were off. Interesting! I have heard wonderful things about their program. What do most people do during the summer? Internships? Is it a full-time program where you can't work while in it?

It's full time but I've been managing to work 24 hours a week as a CNA with no issues. I plan to work all summer as a CNA and get an internship my final summer. I think many people in my class have similar plans.

Hi! I am in the exact same boat! I also have a B.S. from USC and am working on all my pre-reqs this year to either apply to UH accelerated second degree BSN (my top choice, I think), Texas Women's, or the pacesetter BSN at UTHealth. UH will allow you to Clep out of U.S. History 1 & 2 (which is what I'm doing now). I am taking all the online courses I can at Lonestar and HCC. I also have two little ones! Feel free to message me if you hear of any other programs in our area! I am in Sugar Land
