Residency programs in San Antonio

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone,

I am new to this area/state and have been looking around for hospitals to apply at. I am a new grad with no experience (not sure if CNA experience counts) and just graduated with my ADN on December 2013. I've seen many job openings at Methodist Healthcare and I've noticed under the "experience" section it says: RN I " Less than six months experience. MHS practice for RNs with less than six months experience is to attend an RN Residency program."

Does this mean I have to apply for their residency program in order to get a job there as a new grad? If that is the case, does anyone have any idea of when the hospitals around here start accepting applications for the program?

I'm new to the residency program idea. I don't know much about it and I've notice mostly all the hospitals in SA have a residency program (Baptist, Southwest General, Christus..). Please help me understand. Any insight on the hospitals around here would be great. Thanks in advance :)

Following. I'm graduating in May and will be moving to SA in July. Hopefully someone responds. I can't seem to figure out when residency applications are due for each hospital.

The only thing I found out is that they usually start programs in Jan and July. I know Methodist will start accepting applications in May for their July program. I didn't find anything else on the other hospitals.

I called Baptist Healthcare, they have a lot of hospitals in San Antonio, and they don't have a residency or internship, and you have to pass the NCLEX before applying.

I also called Central Texas Medical Center, which is north of San Antonio, and they do have a 13 week (the nurse recruiter said it could be up to 6 months...?) residency program, but you have to pass the NCLEX first before applying. Their residency is only in two areas (if they're hiring): med-surg and PCU (progressive care/telemetry).

Methodist opens up May 18th for their July program.

I haven't receive any info from Christus. :\

Spoke to Christus and they will begin accepting applications at the beginning of March through the end of March. They have the Versant Program.

Yes, it is.

ctBSN14- Did you speak to a nurse recruiter? I called CSR and spoke to a recruiter and she told me that the applications should already be open for the next residency program. This page says otherwise though CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Versant RN Residency for Graduate Nurses... I don't know if I'm just looking in the wrong place or if she is just misinformed. She was really rude to me and didn't hide that she didn't want to talk to me... so she wasn't very helpful :(

For Methodist: Nurse Residency Program in San Antonio, Texas You really need to attend the meet & greet unless you know/have connections to the managers and directors and can schedule to see them. They say that over 90% of the people they hire are those that are interviewed at the meet & greet. If you're graduating in May and you want to get into this program you need to think about when you need to schedule your NCLEX because you need to have your license (not NCLEX passing results) by the time the program begins from what they told me.

For University Hospital: They don't have a specific residency program application. You just apply to a position and if hired, you sign up for the residency program later on.

For Southwest: Ummm... take caution if you choose to start out here.

I could never get a hold of anyone on the phone, so I got in contact with them via social media. The link you put up is the page I've been checking, so I'm guessing she was misinformed or there's a huge miscommunication between her and the webmaster. :\ I trust the information I received, though.

Just checked their website right after I wrote that last post and what they told me is correct!

"We will accept applications for the July 2014 RN Residency beginning March 1, 2014 through March 31, 2014. Please check back during that time period."

At Baptist, just look up job openings and then search "RN Residency" then a new list will pop up of all of the openings.
