Questions about Seton Versant RN Residency in Austin

U.S.A. Texas

I have just been accepted into the Seton RN residency and can answer any questions you may have. I will also be creating a post throughout my experience in the residency. Ask away!

Ctbsn- I definitely would! Are your lectures mandatory? I know of some people who missed clinicals just to go to the open house. I'm glad I don't have to do that but the open house is that important that I would find a way! What's the point of school if you can't get a job? I hope they work with you!!

They are, but I emailed my professor and asked if I could go to the section that meets on Mondays. I'm sure it won't be a problem. If I have to miss out on lecture for a day, then I will! lol

Thanks for all the good info! I saw the open house flyer and signed up for the 1600 slot. I have clinical at Scott and white in temple until 2 so I'm going to be hurrying lol. I put down adult critical care and adult ed. I am so excited to finally be applying for jobs!! Yay!!!

I guess their application isn't actually open until next Monday...

OMG. That is so annoying! I was able to open the application earlier today but I was in class... my teacher already submitted my recommendation AGAIN. I don't know if she would be willing to resubmit a third time. I can't believe they changed the date. That is really really frustrating.

I also plan on applying to St Davids and their app is supposed to open today too but the link is not working... no mention of a change date on their website.

Yes I've tried to access both too! I was able to get on Seton, but it won't let you choose the summer cohort to apply to. I don't know what to do about St. David's, either. :\

I wonder why they changed the date so last minute?

I emailed them and asked if they would please consider applying her recommendation to my application since that was the original date and it was changed so last minute. My instructor is really nice but I don't know if I have the guts to ask her to resubmit a THIRD time.

My friend and I were poking around on their careers page and it looks like they're down for a day or two for scheduled maintenance of the site.

Oh wow... how convenient.... not. I really really hope that they accept my instructor's recommendation, that's all I'm really worried about. I have all of my files ready to go so other than that the changed date doesn't really bother me.

Any luck with St David's yet? I tried even searching for new grad on their regular job search site and I haven't found anything... strange.

Are you applying anywhere else? I'm thinking of applying to Scott and White as well, but only for their critical care internship. I have heard not so great things about their med/surg units. I live in Austin so I'd probably only accept if they were hiring for their hospital in Round Rock... but it's one more chance at acceptance.

I'm applying Seton, St. David's, Scott & White, and Christus Santa Rosa. I work at S&W right now, but I too am from the Austin area and would prefer to stay there. With S&W though, they don't offer their GN program in Round Rock, it's based solely in Temple.

Oh wow, I had no idea about S&W internship being only in Temple... Thanks for the heads up!

I'm also going to apply to Parklands residency in Dallas. They have a Burn ICU which I'm interested in and there are not many burn units in Texas. However, I'd really really like to stay in Austin.

Also the residency asst emailed me back and said my instructor will have to resubmit the reference. LOL. I'm scared to ask her again in fear they change the deadline again.

Ok.... so I officially applied! Anyone else? I had a hard time picking something besides oncology and IMC so I also chose Tele and general Med/Surg. I know several classmates applied today but they are interested in OR and L&D so that's a relief to not have to compete with friends.
