Question for Tarrant County College Nursing Grads?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I just applied to TCC's nursing program for Fall 2012 and have been reading posts on here about how DFW hospitals are only hiring RN's with a BSN and it is terrifying me!! Have any of you who have graduated from TCC or any other ADN program in Texas had trouble finding a job in DFW? Thank you in advance for your comments!!! :)

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Two of my acquaintances graduated from TCC back in December. One is working at Harris Methodist (downtown), and the other is working in a middle management position at a nationally-owned rehabilitation hospital.

Obtaining hospital employment as an inexperienced ADN in the DFW area is less about what you know, and more dependent upon who you know. Both graduates had good attitudes and connections to people who could help them with finding hospital jobs.

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

I agree with The Commuter. I graduated in December and have a full time internship at a local hospital that is going great. I also have classmates who have not yet found work. It just depends on who you know, how flexible you are and more than a little luck.

That's what I was afraid of... Hopefully it will be a little easier once I'm finished with school! Thanks for your comments! :)

You also must be open to non-hospital employment if you really want a job, because there's not enough room for everyone at the hospital. Clinics, nursing homes, hospices, home health agencies, private duty, rehab facilities, and psychiatric hospitals are potential workplaces.

I graduated from TCC in May 2010...at that time only about 1/3 of us had jobs lined up to bridge from GN to RN. Mine was out of state, Kansas (grew up there and have family there), and I had work experience with THR-AMH as an nurse extern. Its a tough market to obtain employment in as a new grad...my advice is take the experience where you can get it and from there you will be able to move into more of the "dream" jobs in the future.
