Question about El Centro ADN

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Are any of you who are in the El Centro program current THR employees who will be doing the tuition reimbursement program?

My best friend is interested in starting nursing school and I recommended that she look into El Centro's ADN program (Im a THR nurse) but I wasnt sure how the tuition reimbursement worked... if she were to start an externship or work as a PCT after her first semester (which I think is the "required" amount of experience for the position), at what point would she be able to take advantage of the tuition reimbursement? Would she have to be a THR employee for a certain amount of time BEFORE she starts the program in order to qualify?

Any insight would be great!

Thanks!

Hey Rachel.... I'm in the THR/ECC program. Once she is employed with THR, the reimbursement will begin upon hire (clinical degrees only). If she needs to take prereq's, she must take a part-time position to get the reimbursement. Once she is in the program, she can work PRN because the center for learning pays for all RN classes upfront (books are included). I don't think you have to be an employee for a certain amount of time before you can apply... I started the program after working for the company for about 4 months. I would advice her to apply for clerical positions because most PCT positions will not hire unless you have completed 2 semesters of nursing school. Even after I completed my 2nd semester, I still had a hard time finding a PCT position because they know that you won't be there for long. I'm a senior, and we still have people in my class working in clerical positions. When I started working for THR, I did insurance billing because I had no medical experience and it was the only place that would hire me. Externships usually aren't offered until your 4th semester...but each THR hospital is different. I hope this helps... let me know if you have anymore questions!

Wow, I wish I had known about this when I started this whole process. All the hospitals I looked into wanted you to be a full time employee for a certain amount of time (most were a year, a couple 6 mos) before they'd pay for anything. That's nice :)

i also work at texas health resources, and i am enrolled at tcc for my prerequites, i have some questions regarding the nursing program at thr, do any one know what pay grade does harris hospital start for new nursing grads

$20-$22 plus shift diffs is what i've heard.... there is also a sign on bonus. Harris downtown also has the step-program where you get a $1 raise every 6 months for 3 years I believe.
