    I am having trouble finding a full time RN job here in Dallas/FW Texas. Does anyone have any advice for a new grad? I do have 5 months of exp. working at a mental health hospital. I have applied to all kinds of postions and have only had a few call backs. I know that most hospitals are not hiring but does anyone know of a hospital in Dallas, Texas that is hiring? Thanks!

    1. The LTAC hospitals (Kindred, Lifecare, Vibra, Ethicus) might be more open to hiring newer nurses when compared to the major hospitals.
    2. The acute rehabilitation hospitals (Global, Reliant, Healthsouth, Triumph) might also be more open to hiring newer nurses.
    3. The outlying country hospitals (Texoma Medical Center, Wise Regional, Weatherford Regional, Palo Pinto General) are often willing to hire and train new nurses, although you would have to commute.
    4. I know that you probably want hospital employment, but finding a job at a major hospital is very difficult in the DFW area. Each job opening receives several hundred applicants, and you might not get called if you do not have the right experience. I would walk into every home health agency, nursing home, or hospice within a 50 mile radius of your home while dressed nicely. Ask to complete an application during business hours. This might result in an on-the spot job interview.

    Also keep an eye on hospital websites. September/October is when internships will start posting for January start dates. You will want to toss your hat into those rings.

    Commuter, do you have any interview tips for a new nurse? Resume tips? should I have education at the top or employment history? Thanks! Nursetxrn

    Commuter - concerning an RN interview... what attire do you suggest? scrubs? shirt and tie? i do work M-F and wear scrubs... would this be appropriate for an interview?

    - also do you have any interview tips?

    Sorry, but I personally do not come across very well in interviews. I tend to be very nervous and display a restricted facial affect that seems to turn interviewers off. Therefore, I really do not have any interview tips because I have not mastered the art of being interviewed.

    I would dress professionally or at least business casual. I would not arrive to interviews in scrubs. You could get away with wearing scrubs to an interview back in 2005 when the economy was better and places were desperate for nurses, but I wouldn't advise it today.

    Congratulations on finding a job!

    I have always completed my CEUs online. Medscape.com offers free CEUs on occasion. I have also paid for interesting CEUs over at Nursingceu.com (Wild Iris Medical Education).
